First Album You Bought With Your Own Money (4 Viewers)

Quoting dude with too many Z's and P's in his user name...

"I think I remember from one of your (I think it was you) other posts around where you lived, and if that's the case, then we lived very close to each other. If that's the local fair you're talking about, then add Another One Bites the Dust and 867 5309 Jenny to that list. They played those songs endlessly while one of the rides (Himalayan Express, I think) ran.
The local school I'm referring to had two fairs each year."

Cochon de lait in Oct?

Quiet Riot Metal Health or the Police Synchronicity. Not sure which one exactly. However, Def Leppard’s Pyromania was the first music I bought but it was cassette

We lived 4 blocks from the school, and if my memory is correct, you would've been 5 blocks from it.

And, yes, I went there from 3rd - 7th.

Haha yess head bang in.

And you mention the Cars... Always reminds me of Cheap Trick (had album of theirs too)
Cheap Trick another one of my "have to buy all their albums" bands. Those bands correspond to most of my live concerts, too, because I didn't spend the money if I didn't love them.

Anybody know the band "Kix"? A regional favorite in Baltimore and southern PA. Had a small hit with the ballad "Don't Close Your Eyes" which I hated. Loved them from the first time I heard them on local FM and went to see them almost every chance I got at Hammerjack's and other local clubs and opening for other bigger acts because they were/are a helluva live band!

One of my most favorite songs of theirs:

2XL came out in 1978.

I had one ('79?) but very few of the tapes for it. Mine didn't move. It was supposed to be an educational toy. It got boring after I memorized the tapes.

Yes, that must have been it. It had tapes that were educational or interactive with the robot. But we didn't have much patience for that. Not when we could be rockin' out with John Travolta and OLJ.

I also recall buying the Star Wars: Return of the Jedi Soundtrack. The double hologram CD they put out when they re-released the movies. That was pretty early in my CD days.

I had an eclectic mix.

First LPs i ever owned (though didnt purchase myself) were The Beatles Hard Days Night and Live at Shea Stadium.. i actually know the day I received them, Dec 9th 1980, becuase i woke up that day curious about all the fuss going on in NYC and why anybody cared who John Lennon was.. So after school i had those two albums waiting for me along with a coffee table book about the group.. That was a little over 40 years ago now, and life has never been the same.
I remember my Mom waking me up with the news. She was grieving as though a family member had died.

I think that I was the only kid in school who hadn't seen Grease for a long time at my school. I got so tired of hearing about it that, when I finally saw it, I hated everything about it. The music is ok. I just don't care for the movie. Unfortunately, every woman in my age group loves it.

Yeah, when I was a kid, I didn't like or get the movie at all. I liked the soundtrack though. I suppose when I was maybe late teens or early 20s, I started to get the movie. It's really not that good if you're not into the nostalgia bit. If you're an 80s kid, you probably liked Grease 2 better.

That’s a heckuva origin story

Yep, I was one of those who liked G2 better. I liked the music better than the movies tho.
