N/S Forgive me for saying this, but the Falcons 2024 Quarterback move is GENIUS! (21 Viewers)

Dude didn't even throw a TD pass and we're saying he's their next franchise QB? They had 2 pick sixes and 2 Bijan TDs againts the Giants... They won by a lot and I heard Penix didn't look bad, but one game against arguably the worst team in the league doesn't mean the Falcons are set for a run and Penix is going to ball out down the stretch.
Penix was announced the starter on Tuesday night. So he didn’t practice with the 1 team until Wednesday. He didn’t get a full week of practice. He did exactly what he needed to do. They had a chance to start him against a tasty opponent.

All true.
But if the Falcons had rolled the dice with Penix from Day One of the season, they may not even be in the enviable position that they are right now. Trust me, I'm not saying that Penix is now set to be the next Joe Montana. But they are certainly on a better road in 2024 than if they had thrown him to the dogs back in September. And there is now a whole lot less QB mystery in Atlanta than what we are experiencing here in the Big Easy.

Not really brilliant, its called a fringe QB, teams do it all the time when they have or have drafted a young signal caller.

If by brilliant, you mean absolutely moronic than you are correct, sir.
I suppose we'll just have to count our hatched chickens and their hatched chickens at the end of the season before I should make such a ridiculous assumption.

can't plan for the littany of injuries we had. My hope was alwaya that Rattler would have the ability to wait and develop for at least a year. I don't see where what we did was anything different from them other than they had a higher draft pick to access one of the top tier QB's.

I went back and looked at the full Falcons game. I thought Penix was poised, a bit statuesque, and yet delivers a nice ball. His ball location is better than Rattler's and his height helps him to see/have more clear throwing lanes.
When it happens EVERY SINGLE YEAR you certainly have to start planning for it!

I do appreciate that Falcons operate their franchise as if every move they make is 100% going to fail. "Who do we draft in the 1st?" "Well, we just signed Kirk Cousins, we all know how that story ends. Draft a QB"

The genius is, they are absolutely right. The amount of things theyve gotten right is equal to the amount of Lombardi's in their trophy case.

Meh…I’d like to watch a few games against teams not named the Giants before declaring the move genius or bringing out the anointing oils for Penix. All he did yesterday against one of the worst and uninspired teams in the league is look “somewhat decent/competent.”

I do like him as a prospect but I am not going to call Atlanta geniuses at this point.

While I agree in principle with this^... There is absolutely no way for any team to prepare to save a season with the shear number of personnel losses we experienced this year. No team can insert that many backups into the lineup and expect that there won't be a huge drop-off in efficiency. All the teams that had a similar number of losses at key positions for the majority of the season will also be watching the playoffs at home in their recliners.

Oh for sure. It's been brutal. But it seems to be a theme for us year in and year out and at this point, I'm questioning our medical staff more than anything else.

Eff em…. But they absolutely made the right play with Cousins and Pennix. They played the now and the future because they didn’t have a franchise QB in house.

If Cousins works out then it’s money well spent…. And your young QB can sit and learn. If not, you have a young QB you can play on a 5 year rookie contract and start your future now.

It’s the right move with a young QB and a bridge vet QB. No one is gonna care what they paid Cousins if Pennix is a star. No one. $100 million guaranteed QBs are now a dime a dozen in the NFL.

Whether or not it works out in the end is irrelevant. It’s the Falcons so it probably wont. But the decision was correct.

Again. Eff em. But it was the right move. One I wish we would have made years ago.

Whatever 'bug' the Saints have has definitely been passed on to the Pelicans squad.
I don't know if it's the food, the water, or the air around here, but something is making it impossible for either of our pro teams from being able to avoid injuries. Even Dyson Daniels (who had his share of injuries while here) says it's impossible to stay healthy here. He's now looking pretty healthy as a Hawk player. :covri:
