I believe the first time i heard it was from my aunt who worked at the very first Popeye’s location on the westbank in the early 1970s.. i think it was in Arabi (?).. so like a lot of things , you hear it as a kid then you grow up and question if it’s actually true.. thanks for clarifying .
I’m pretty sure the very 1st popey’s was in arabi.

Sorry, didn’t finish my thought.
Arabi is in tha parish (chalmette) not the westbank.

Oh s***.. i knew that .. i have been away too long from NOLA .

I think i was maybe thinking of Algiers .
We have all been caught slipping.

I have been waiting in line (this morning) for a Dong Phung king cake. Talking to the person next to me they asked what school I went to, so I told them Tulane.

Rookie mistake.

What is the first film that you think of when y’all think of Hackman ? For me it’s probably Superman, then Unforgiven, then No Way Out, then Runaway Jury with Hoffman, then The Firm .
Difficult question as he is in so many great films.

I guess The French Connection always comes up first in my mind since it's the first film I remember seeing with him in it. Followed closely by The Conversation, Hoosiers, Superman, Unforgiven, and The Bird Cage. Lots of others, too, but Popeye Doyle is the first thing I think of.

RIP to an American icon.

Arabi is on the East Bank, just before Chalmette going South....I worked near there in college (barge company on the canal).....
