NFL Draft Get ready. I think we’re trading up. 💯 (53 Viewers)

All this talk about never trading back of course ignores that we had a deal in place to trade down with the Rams last year, if the Raiders took Fuaga as they expected.

Also, giving up day 2 picks, in a draft loaded with quality prospects in the top 100 at almost every position the team can still do well to strengthen, is a poor proposition.

Furthermore, the three year deals we've been giving out to re-sign and sign free agents lines up well with having draftees on the roster ready to take over before the end of their cheap rookie deals.

So actually the signs all seem to contradict the OP notion of a trade up. But every plan is perfect until first contact with the enemy, let's see what madness unfolds come the day.

I could see a trade up late day 2 or early day 3. I think they have a ton of room for all our picks though. Look at the 2026 roster. They will need a ton of bodies very soon.
Yeah this seems more likely. Or at least that would make more sense to me. The OP said that we don't have the roster spots for a lot of rookies. If you look at our depth chart I see plenty of room for rookies. We aren't so loaded that we have no room for young talent. That was always the line from SP and Loomis back in the day when they traded up willy nilly. I don't know if that was true then but it's certainly not true now.

I want to see them hold their water at #9 and let the draft come to them. If they want to make a move to go up to the top of the 2nd or 3rd then I can live with that. The top of the 2nd usually has a few guys who were thought to be 1st round talents. We're in a good spot with all these picks.

Loomis has 4 picks in the third and fourth rounds. Plus an extra 7th.

But, what convinces me the most that we will trade is how many vets we signed at positions of need.

We rarely have top ten picks. Look at our draft history. So we aren’t trading down. We have a Louisiana connection thing going on. We could trade up for Will Campbell. The Raiders at 6 who want an excuse to draft Jeanty over other players are a prime candidate to trade down.

We don’t have the roster spots for 8 rookies. We will trade up. Even if we stay put at 9, we will trade up from
40.
I think if we trade in the first round it won’t be up in regards to the 9th pick, but we may pick at 9 and trade back into the first round.

The only surprise would be if we were responsible and traded back.

I think its setup that way for just in case we decide to trade up. We are leaving options open.

Now this couldn't turn out bad, right?

I do think we will trade up with some of the draft capital that we have.

But in later rounds than round 1.

Squandering draft picks is a Loomis weakness, so I wouldn’t rule out trading up, but I’d rather see us take more picks b/c we have so many needs and it increases our chances of hitting on some good players.
