ok, so the point i was not able to expound upon last night...My apologies, please commence with how cops are regular people and how that is a perspective you never considered before by all means
so the general kneejerk take from those have a jaundiced eye about policing is that there is some flaw in those who join the force and become bad cops - they're cowboys, or little guys who need guns/badge to feel powerful, or ex-military with ptsd or racists who hide in the system (and i think there are probably a goodly number of each example and even the FBI has pointed out that white supremacists have infiltrated most major depts) -
BUT
the rhetorical idea that cops come from the general population, and the general population is certainly not 99% good 'guys', it gives a 'non-character flaw' reason for bad cops and highlights why depts need to do a much better job with training
