FA Guard Dillon Radunz visiting the Saints (117 Viewers)

As much as I wanted Becton, the Saints clearly had the money to outbid the Chargers and chose not to. Add in who the Saints Head Coach is, and it just feels like Moore isn't convinced Becton can be a long term solution. The top LG and RG are both making more than $20m AAV and Becton signed for half that... either the Chargers got a steal or they're the "winners" of finding out why Becton's market was drastically lower than everyone thought.
Very valid man. No knows more than Kellen what Becton was worth. Maybe he was a product of just being around superior talent.

I like him. I liked him in the draft. He shows a lot of flashes of being really good but also a lot of flashes of not being good. He's young and its possible he wasn't coached up correctly for whatever flaws he has but he's mean and loves to hit. It's probably why he's good in the run game but isn't in the pass game.

Take note. The Olineman we've been bringing in were all better in the run game then the pass. Moore may just have a crush on Penning. lol. Maybe we're not looking at rookie QB's much at all. It wouldn't make sense to bring in Olineman who excel in the run game but can't pass block well, then draft a rookie QB to pass the ball.
Good point about the run blockers.

On the coaching part, it seems that our staff last season got the most out of the o line, Penning in particular…anyone have any idea if our new staff has good o line coaches too?

I remember some posters saying Benton and co were gonna be good and I’d agree that they were. Hope the new coaches are able to coach up the line as well.

Shoulda did whatever we had to in order to get Becton, unless the Saints are dead set in doing whatever they got to to draft someone like Tate at 40.

Given that he only got $10 million AAV, I would think that Moore, Nuss, and Paganetti who had him on their OL last year didn't think he was worth that money. Either that or he just wanted to go to the Chargers.

The fastest way to improving is run game/defense and then build out the passing game. It's also a QB's best friend and a defense's best friend as well.

I wanted Becton last year and this year, however Becton has ended up at RG and where he was drafted doesn't warrant a RG. There are a couple Monster OT's in the draft that will probably go to OG innthe NFL. Hollin Pierce, Anthony Belton and Jalen Travis are all Becton's size and will probably end up at OG. They can all be drafted in the 2nd or later and have a rookie deal at lot less than what Becton got. I wonder if that is how the FO and CKM is looking at it now and maybe why we didn't pursue him as much as we all thought we would.

This is the information that PFF had on Dillon Radunz. Overall grade 2024- 57.0, snaps played- 903 all at RG. His pass blocking grade- 63.9, run blocking grade- 53.6. Penalties-5 and sack allowed- 6. I'd say he's a middle of the road O-Lineman. He would be depth at RT or RG, which is what we need anyway. Our depth stunk last season.

Interesting, he didn't appear to have his best season under Callahan's more pass happy scheme, where he was primarliy RG.

Dig a bit deeper and go back to 2023 and he had a much higher grade where he played majority of his snaps at RT(594) and LG (166) in a more run oriented scheme. Could he be competition for Trevor Penning at RT? It's worth asking... He had a 78.7 RBK Grade and a 67 overall grade in 23.
He could serve as Guard and Tackle depth like Landon Young and Udoh did. Saints like versatile G/Ts in OL depth. He could be Udoh’s replacement with upside to start at LG while Guard is addressed early in the draft.

I’m thinking Lucas Patrick replacement until a drafted player beats him out. I can see Patrick signing in Seattle with Kubiak.

I figured that's what Clapp was.

Doesn't sound we're going after a bonafide starter but rather a young guy who hasn't fully panned out. Let him, a rookie and Sal compete to be the starter.
