Looks like the Saints plan was always addressing long term starting LG in the draft. The gap between Becton and vet min FA starting Guards doesn’t seem wide enough to easily give Becton 10M AAV and 15M+ cap hits in year 2-beyond off of one year at Guard & one good season with the Eagles.

As much as I wanted Becton, the Saints clearly had the money to outbid the Chargers and chose not to. Add in who the Saints Head Coach is, and it just feels like Moore isn't convinced Becton can be a long term solution. The top LG and RG are both making more than $20m AAV and Becton signed for half that... either the Chargers got a steal or they're the "winners" of finding out why Becton's market was drastically lower than everyone thought.

Dig a bit deeper and go back to 2023 and he had a much higher grade where he played majority of his snaps at RT(594) and LG (166) in a more run oriented scheme. Could he be competition for Trevor Penning at RT? It's worth asking... He had a 78.7 RBK Grade and a 67 overall grade in 23.

This is a great point. The overall evaluation of the player may not have been what us external observers felt it should be.

and length 34in arms. In some zone schemes they don't mind the RT being under 300lbs and under (295 range). Makes me curious if were going to keep more wide zone concepts vs being a more inside zone/gap team.

I was thinking the same thing. You can easily make room for 10m/yr if you want. Neither Moore or the Eagles wanted him for that and they know his best play the best. Seems fair to default to their decisions. My interest in Becton was superficial anyway. Nothing about his actual tape and scheme fit.

Becton revived his career in Philly after this tenure with the Jets:

After a promising rookie season — in which he was drafted before perennial All-Pro Tristan Wirfs — Becton battled weight issues, injuries and antagonistic Jets fans online for the bulk of his New York career. He had two separate major knee injuries, and when asked, said he'd rather not move to right tackle before his final season with the Jets. So he wasn't re-signed or given an extension, and instead, signed a minimum deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.

So now, he chose to go play for Jim Harbaugh, and Justin Herbert with a rising Charger team. Ya'll gotta let this go. It is unlikely the Saints got a sniff by Becton, even with Moore as HC. In his farewell Philly tweet, he did not mention Moore by name, but he wrote this about his OL Coach, Jeff Stoutland:
