Haener starts vs Commanders: 1 INT, 5 punts ; Rattler replaced Haener in 2H: led to 19 points (7 Viewers)

Needed to win one of final 3 games and lost to MN, Cincinnati and Carolina who combined won maybe 13 games that season.
All three were in last place, and MN scored a TD as time expired then instead of kicking to tie, they went for 2 to win. Daunte Culpepper literally dropped the snap, but somehow then waltzed it into the end zone for the 2 and we lost.

That was one of my first lessons as a Saints fan in how their poor luck goes and it was preparation for future disappointments.

I'm older. 1983 season finale vs. Rams was indescribably heartbreaking.

And it was obvious in that Carolina game that Brooks couldn’t throw. I still think however, that Atlanta tries to beat Cleveland in the final game had we won the Carolina game anyway, but still…it was such a bad decision to play Brooks.

I wanted Haslett fired after that season....I think it was glaringly obvious his team's grossly underachieved.....he was a godawful terrible HC....
Anyone remember when someone started the firejimhaslett website after that season?

Haener's performance was so bad, I think that the team will never be able to sell to the fanbase that he should start another game while Rattler remains healthy and available. It's unfortunate since Haener seems capable of performing in practice but isn't translating it to the field.

Rattler has a lot he can develop on, but I think he's never going to be in a position to show his full potential until the team eventually commits that he's the guy that's getting the start through a whole training camp. He needs every first team rep, to build rapport with the receivers, learn all the calls with the o-line, develop the nuances on selling play action, etc.

Since I was curious:

Rattler before Sunday: 20.7 yards/drive, 1.00 points/drive (23 drives)
Haener before Sunday: 32.1 yards/drive, 1.43 points/drive (7 drives)

I can understand wanting to see what Haener could do. In one week, those numbers have flipped:

Rattler after Sunday: 26.4 yards/drive, 1.56 points/drive (27 drives)
Haener after Sunday: 21.1 yards/drive, 0.83 points/drive (12 drives)

It's by no means all-world (yards/drive would rank 30th, points/drive would rank 29th against other NFL teams' season performance), but the numbers have flipped in favor of putting Rattler back at QB1.

Yup, he may have looked very good in practice, but just not game ready.....it's a big leap.....some QB's just never make it.....Maybe he gets another chance here or somewhere else one day.....but that had to be crushing to his confidence....
