Haener starts vs Commanders: 1 INT, 5 punts ; Rattler replaced Haener in 2H: led to 19 points (10 Viewers)

My biggest issue with Rattler has been his pocket presence. I think he has shown a lot of promise and potential. I was listening to a show early in the week about handicapping games. Vegas adjust the lines when a team loses their center more than any other position. Even QB.

My biggest issue with Haener has been everything. He did make one risky but incredible throw that was dropped just before the horrible interception. But some of his throws were just head scratching. Leading receivers into the coverage and throwing on the wrong side of the receiver. Slipping and tripping and falling down instead of hitting open lanes to escape the rush.

Rattler stood in there and delivered some nice throws under pressure and with people in his face numerous times. I don’t know what some have seen or see in Haener but I’ve never seen it. He throws a pretty ball in warmups but that’s it for me.

I wanna know what practices they were watching.
I think the front office had a big influence in that decision. I think they wanted some film of Haener as a starter after preparing to be the starter. I don’t remember which show I listened to this week, but they pretty well said as much.

To be fair, I was surprised we went to Rattler earlier in the season, purely because NFL teams and coaches almost always obey their depth chart and give deference to the guy who is #2 at the position. I thought they'd go with Haener and then move on to Rattler if he struggled. In the end, it looks as though this is what they did in game 15 instead, and now they have some further tape on both guys for evaluation.

He apparently practiced well enough to earn the #2 spot. So that's the call the coaches made. Rattler was far and away the better QB on the field today, so the choice is now pretty easy.
He was the #2 QB earlier in the year when Carr went down and Rattler got the call over him.

I really feel like this was Rizzi trying to create a culture more than anything. Haener was the #2 going into the season and when Carr went down the first time, DA went around him and started Rattler to try and save his job.

Rizzi wanted to give his #2 the courtesy of starting as is the pecking order on the depth chart. When he didn’t perform Rizzi gave some support on the sidelines but made the necessary change in order to try and win the game.

Excellent coaching from Rizzi in this one.

Maybe you should listen to what Rizzi said in his presser about the penalties and dropped passes that happened when JH was @ QB
so when I said the same about Rattler it didn't seem to matter ok.

Yes, and I remember reports stating that Haener was elevated to the #2 after Carr returned from injury, probably related to Rattlers poor play during those 3 games he started. He played much better yesterday and definitely cemented his place ahead of Haener at this point.

Im not sure what to think about Rattler or Haener. When Rattler played poorly and we put Haener in, we got a bit of a boost and people thought Haener should start. When Haener started, Rattler came in and outscored Wash 19-6 and nearly got the win.

Between the 2, Rattler has the higher upside. Haener seems to be at his ceiling. But I dont think either is the long term answer for QB1.

Agreed. I'd only add that I think Rattler could potentially become the long term answer, but it's hard to say with the team being as much a mess as it is now.

Put it this way, if Rattler could be the long term answer, it would really make things easier in terms of addressing the team's other pressing needs.

That said, he's got a long way to go and may never get there. We'll see.

Rattler has enough upside that Id prefer to go into next season with him as the QB1 and let him sink or swim. Im not in favor in spending money on anyone this offseason. I think he has a long way to go to hit QB1 status, and may never get there but Id prefer at least giving him the chance. Carr isnt the answer in any situation. Chances are next season isnt going to be much better than this one, we are either going to keep on keeping on with how we do things, or we are going to embrace the rebuild.

We need to choose rebuild. Not a reset. Completely new vision, new gm, new hc. Rattler has enough upside to give him the chance to see if he is part of the future. Ive seen enough of Carr and Haener to know they arent part of it.

I'm with you there. I don't think the team can dump Carr until after the 25 season, so I'd suspect we'll go into next season with him and Rattler competing for the starting job.

Of course all of this is moot if we don't address the GM and HC positions, but yeah, I'd like to give Rattler the reins and let him learn on the job next season and Carr can be QB2 for a season. He might not want or like that, but he's had plenty of chances already. Time to move on.

The real issue with the divide was that Aaron Brooks had a separated throwing shoulder and it clearly impacted his play in season where a single win in our final three games - against three very winnable opponents - would have secured a playoff spot.

Keep in mind that we’d swept the eventual Super Bowl champion Bucs that season, so the playoffs would have been full of possibilities.

Haslett trotted out a diminished Brooks and we laid horrid eggs in the final two games and 9-4 became 9-7 and no playoffs.

Delhomme, realizing that he clearly had no shot at playing here - departed for a division rival and immediately took them to the Super Bowl in 03’.

So the Brooks/Delhomme divide was with good reason. There was no reasonable excuse why Delhomme didn’t play those final two games in 02’.
Needed to win one of final 3 games and lost to MN, Cincinnati and Carolina who combined won maybe 13 games that season.

The difference.. 7% lol..
that magically stopped when Rattler was under center. OK dude.
So magical that instead of us getting penalized like crazy it was the commanders getting penalized like crazy.. as if the NFL was protecting a line made of money...

Probably really regret that decision.
