Haener starts vs Commanders: 1 INT, 5 punts ; Rattler replaced Haener in 2H: led to 19 points (5 Viewers)

Sure. But that's generally what you get from rookie QBs. Rattler clearly is not ready to be an NFL starter, but he has shown flashes so he is worth keeping around to develop. Maybe with another offseason and training camp he will be ready to be an NFL starter. Or maybe he won't be. So like I said they need to keep brining in young QBs until they find The One. All I think we know now is that Haner is not going to be that guy and Rattler isn't far enough along to justify not adding another young QB to develop.
I don't think we've disagreed with each other on any of this.

But I'm also happy to repeat that I'm not ready to anoint anyone based on flash.

I have seen enough of Carr to know what we have good and bad, and he isn't the long-term answer if we are talking being a championship team. He is a good stop gap and with a top tier coaching staff and team around him could possibly be a piece that gets it done but he is older and that plays against him.

Haener and Rattler are two that I haven't seen enough of to make a judgement especially with the shape the team is in. Rattler seems to fire the team up more or one would think just in the difference but what went on in the locker room was it another team leader that stepped up or Rizzi or both and got these guys fired up? I tend to think it may be a bit of both.

It's way too early to say this one is or isn't but the truth is Rattler outperformed Haener. I thought his release was slow and said so on the gameday board but that was too quick of a judgement because he actually has a decent release. It is just too early to say if Rattler is the long-term answer maybe that will come next year and if he can beat Carr for the position and we have a head coach that isn't afraid to make that call then maybe next year will show who is capable.

I will say the one thing that Haener seems to have a problem with is taking way too long to make a decision when it comes to taking sacks. Rattler seems to have a bit of an edge in that dept, and they are two different styles of players. I do appreciate Rizzi making decisions and adjusting to the game we haven't seen that for quite some time, and it is refreshing. Not upset at the loss because the effort to comeback was really impressive.

Carr is starting next year
I would say if the next head coach will let these guys have an open competition and Rattler is indeed better than Carr it will be interesting to see what happens. I do understand the whole starter money vet thing, but it will be interesting if anything. Right now, Carr is the starter it is his job to hold onto. Generally, if it is the same coach as the prior year then you would assume it is back to Carr. I just want someone that can be consistent and the problem this year is nothing has been consistent from top to bottom.

I was more disappointed in Haener since this is year 2 for him. He shouldn't have looked that bad at this stage.
He just doesn't have the talent and shouldn't be in the NFL. I was surprised by none of this. He looked horrible in the preseason. His throws took forever to get to WRs against 3rd and string players. If a qb can't light up street guys in preseason. He probably isn't an NFL QB of any type

Sure. I'm not either. I'm just saying that Rattler is the first young/rookie QB we've even seen flash since Aaron Brooks. Still, he might not make it.

The "Carr" experiment is going no where. I rather find our young QB or develop our young QB than see Carr next season 🤔
Injuries have just derailed him. When he plays he has been very good. You probably in draft not going to find anyone better than him.

Saints probably don't find thier next qb until Carrs time is done here.

I think I’ve seen and can remember most Saints QBs in their history. At least going back to the mid-seventies.

I can’t recall a QB who looked as bad as Haener. It wasn’t just the lack of pocket awareness it was the sense of the game being way faster than he could possibly process. That and a palpable nervousness that could be felt just watching him.

Ian Book? Danny Weurfel? John Fourcade when he came back to earth? It’s impossible to overstate to how poorly he played and the fact that Rizzi pulled him at the half - knowing full well the confidence shattering implications of that - speaks to someone who had no business being on a football field.

Great guy. Took some hilarious promotional photos. But not an NFL QB.

I'll be the first to say yes Rattler played better than Haener and should start if Carr can't go.
Let's also look at some things. Haener throws a very good pass and Wilson makes a great catch for a 1st @ the Wash 40 and Patrick gets a highly debatable holding call and no 1st and Haener gets sacked that's a 40yd swing.
2nd qtr at our own 32 Haener throws a 20yd pass to MVS that goes right thru both his hands and he drops it, next play Haener throws a pick and the refs miss a facemask call. Even Rizzi mentioned those 2 plays and their impact on the 1st half in his presser. MVS dropped a 2nd Haener pass later in the 1st half.
Make no mistake, Haener could have and should have played better

Spencer Rattler played well. Let's take a look. He made a great pass in the 1st drive down the field while getting hit and low and behold MVS says I can catch this football unlike I did in the 1st half.

2nd drive 3-10 he gets sacked and they call Wash for a hands to the face and we get a drive sustaining 1st. Same drive ball @ the Wash 32 they call Wash for roughing the passer. Kendre Miller loses 6 and 2 passes in a row batted down and we settle for a FG

3rd drive, very good pass to Foster also aided by another roughing the QB call the ball goes from the 8 to the 45 almost a 30yd gain. He also had a short pass dropped by Miller. Then he had an INT dropped by #4. ten a throw away and we kick a FG.

Last drive , we get the ball on our 44. Great running by Miller and some good passes by Rattler even though the refs missed and offsides AND a D holding. Great play calling by Klint Kubiak except for 1 too many run. Ran all the clock out so great time mgt. Rattler throws a good pass to get the TD.

On the 2pt Rattler had MVS open just past the goalline and he had Austin in the back of the EZ for an easy throw he chose the harder of the throws

All this is not to take away from Rattler he played a pretty good game and should be QB2 and start if Carr can't go. Rattler did have some advantages Haener did not have. MVS catches drive sustaining passes instead of dropping them. We get drive sustaining penalties instead of drive killing penalties and the OL played much better in the 2nd half

Seems to me it is better for them to come off the bench. It seems like both quarterbacks play better when coming in late. But in all seriousness ... Rattler played a tremendous game. Give him props. Not naming him to be the starter going forward but looking like he can compete for a starting job in a year or two. Please for heaven's sake build a team around these young quarterbacks. The protection was just atrocious. Rattler hung in there very well.

Book looked just as bad.

Weurfel had some moments of competency and he did lead us to a 3-0 start that one time. lol

I think Book was the worst though. Guy showed no talent whatsoever. Like he didn’t even look like he belonged in our Tuesday morning tryout camps he was so bad.
