HB71 - Requires Louisiana Schools to display the 10 commandments passes with Bipartisan Support 82 - 19 (2 Viewers)

Same- im 53 on the back 9 of career - one in college and one in HS. so at the very least, i have 6-10 years left here. But both my girls know that once the youngest graduates college, moms n i are OUT. Yall can follow if yall want.

My oldest is full of hope and vigor- getting masters in Ed. Her BF wants to be in government- he too all bright eyed and bushy tailed. Im like " listen i want you two, upon graduation, to travel- go see what the world has to offer in way of lifestyle etc" THEN come back and find employment and start career...but understand that the career paths you both chose are rife with compromise and hardship. And DONT LET it make you cynical or put out that youthful "fire" you both have. It will certainly try.

I just dont see a really bright future for their careers here in this state. Youngest wants to be NICU nurse- she can do that ANYWHERE.

Yeah, I'm 52 with one in college and on the back 9 of my career. But, it's hard for lawyers to go work in other states (I'm only admitted in LA and am too old to take another bar exam) and both my wife and I are lawyers (she's admitted in Texas too). So, unless I somehow manage to retire one day (which seems doubtful), I'm here for the duration.

My daughter is an electrical engineering student which doesn't have a lot of options in Louisiana, but she is an intern for one of the few companies here that do need electrical engineers and she is on a path to have a great career moving up with them so she may end up staying. Her long time boyfriend on the other hand is also an electrical engineering student but he goes to school in the Northeast and likely does not want to move back here. That is until he finds out how much the cost of living is in the Northeast to live in a big city with his lifestyle and he has connections here that he will not have other places. So we will see where that goes. If our daughter leaves, we would certainly have a lot of motivation to follow her to wherever she goes.

as much hoohah i talk about leaving, i know if our kids decide to remain here, my wife is NOT going to want to leave and thats that. lol

She has made that very clear.

Plus, "retirement" is me merely taking a half step back from what i do or possibly roll into some sort of consulting or representative work that allows me more down time. But there is no 'no working" for me at least for another 17 years lol

and ive been at same place for 25 years- id be starting over wherever i went and quite literally earning 1/5 of what i do now. Id be cutting off nose to spite my face lol. THATS what keeps me around. ( if im being totally honest lol )

Half of the 10 are no-brainers and the other half require adherence to one religion.

This bill is simply a way for politicians to get cheap praise from the simple-minded.

aka "pandering" lol

Exactly - and the vote was the way it was because everyone knew it was gonna pass and they didn’t want to give opposition the chance to say “So and So voted against the 10 Commandments! They’re clearly communist!”

FFRF exists to fight bills like this - I invite those interested to join me in asking them to fight this one.

Like they fought the school in Walker LA that banned dancing a la Footloose.

Driving home started a new books on tape
Fun little sci-fi diversion I thought
Protagonist had his head cryogenically preserved and was waking up in the future- this will be fun, I thought
Seemingly the future he wakes up in is a theocratic hellscape

Now I’m bummed - not sci-fi, just future history

So glad we're focusing on the stuff that matters. Housing crisis, low wages, terrible quality of life all around, insurance crisis.

IMO, many Christian's have been convinced that Christianity is somehow under attack in this country when nothing could be further from the truth. Nobody is stopping anyone from practicing Christianity anywhere they want or whenever they want.
The best way to arouse passion and fear in people is to convince them they are under existential threat.

I quit practicing in LA more than 20 years ago, so maybe things have changed, but one of the issues is Louisiana's lack of reciprocity with most states. If you practice in common law states, getting admitted by motion in other states is often an option.
