RB is a luxury pick with the roster we have.

Instead we should draft inferior project players at more important positions like Peat, Ruiz, Penning, Davenport, and Turner? Elite players at any position aren’t a luxury. We need difference makers…we have very few of those types of players right now

Look at it like this . You got a guy that is the mgr of vintage car dealership. Now he's great at #'s and people evaluation, but he's not the greatest at telling you whether this 63 vette is going to out perform the 73 challenger. His ast mgr says the Vette but his main mechanic says it's the Dodge. Both are for sale and the ast mgr and the mechanic can't agree. Both guys have been right and wrong before. The main guy has to pick one, more than likely he's going to go with the ast mgr. That's how the Saints draft room is run from what I have gathered

Excellent analogy, and you are correct. ML is the tiebreaker on disagreements, but usually those disagreements are hashed out well before draft day.

Fans and media members make all sorts of mock drafts, several different versions, so you can only imagine the amount of scenario mocks the actual guys involved do. All of that stuff is figured out and a consensus is made well before draft day, with the voice of the college scouting director being the chief voice in the room, along with a ton of input from the head coach, and to a certain degree, his assistants.

To tell you the truth, I’m not so sure this structure is that unique. Maybe some teams have heavy-handed GMs that are a lot more stern about who the boss is and makes all decisions, but I’d bet most lean-in heavily on their scouting directors they’ve hired to do the evaluations and the coaches that are to coach them.
