Hiring Moore = Ashton Jeanty as 1st rd pick? (65 Viewers)

Yeah I just don’t understand the common thought here that there is going to be some major OL shift or we need to dedicate premium resources to the position.

We could use a LG, but I certainly don’t see us using a high draft pick on one. I could see us using “solid starter” type dollars on one but certainly not a top 10 first round pick.

We currently have three first round picks and an all-pro second round pick starting. At some point, your guys are your guys.

Dedicating yet another premium selection to fill a OL hole seems foolish to me at this stage.

This will be our OL in 2025 IMO…

LT Fuaga
LG Solid starter type free agent
C McCoy
RG Ruiz
RT Penning

It’s up to the coaching staff to make this group work. Add some depth in the middle rounds or with a free agent or two of Lucas Patrick’s ilk. Patrick wasn’t exactly terrible last year either, btw. If he’s healthy, at a minimal we should bring him back as very good C/G and leadership depth.
I agree. We always in position to take BPA, we need talent on this team. I would welcome Jeanty on this team the idea of having the both in the backfield at the same time can only make each of them better, and the saints will be better too. We can get a LG and some defense later in the draft

Jeanty is absolutely a generational talent at RB.

He doesn't have to be a generation talent to be worth it at #9. The Saints have failed at O-line and D-line first round draft picks, and I don't have any faith that that trend will change. It's been an ongoing theme for a long time. If Jeanty can have an Ingram or Kamara like career, that will be pretty good value. They will go from being good at nothing to being pretty good in the run game.

I could be wrong, and I often am, but I think Jeanty could have a bigger impact than anyone else they pick at 9, even if he's not BPA. But there are plenty of holes everywhere so not picking Jeanty at 9 wouldn't be the worst decision, either.

I have 3 players in my cloud @9 Carter , T-Mac and Graham. If they are gone and may likely be, I want us to do everything possible to trade down a few spots. I'm not opposed to taking Jeanty or Warren , just not @ 9

I'm not so sure the Saints failed their first round picks for Oline and Dline. Theres a lot that goes into players being successful in the NFL. Constantly we see great talent look bad, go to a different coach, and suddenly their career is revived.

We know DA's coaching staff was bad and we know in some specific cases they weren't even attempting to coach up players. With the Oline, they looked lost at times. Out of sync. It's quite possible the scheme and play calling were failing them to some degree on top of coaching failing to coach them up.

Point is, I don't think we have any idea what our players in the trenches are truly capable of because coaching has been clearly failing them since Payton left. This was to be somewhat expected for anyone who watched the Oakland Raiders to a fair degree while DA was coaching there.

Players like Turner, Davenport, and Foskey are absolutely failures for where they were picked. It doesn't matter if they go on to be stars somewhere else. It didn't help the Saints any. Penning has been a failure till this year, and it took Ruiz, what 3 years to not be terrible? Fuaga had a pretty good rookie season, but not enough to move the needle. There's still talk of moving him to guard, so he's been far from dominating at LT.

The point is that the Saints haven't drafted a real impact player in years. The only real impact players the Saints have on the team are old. The only player that the Saints have on offense that teams have to gameplan for is Hill, and he's old. And when he's down, they suck. So, if the Saints don't hit on one, or if it takes 3 years for him to develop, the new HC will likely be coaching somewhere else in about 3 years. So, if you have to overdraft a player to make sure you hit on someone, I think it's worth it - at least this year. Not every year.

Agreed. Not enough home runs as of late.

We have somehow become so used to bad drafts that a guy that merely manages to get on the field is considered a “hit.”

At some point, we just stopped being able to draft actual stars.

McCoy is our only drafted Pro Bowler since 2018. That’s horrendous.

I didn't realize that it had been that long. That's crazy.

I'd be fine with Starks too if the other guys aren't there.
Starks inside the top 10 would be yet another failure by the FO.

As someone who watched a ton of Georgia he had an incredibly disappointing 2024 season.

You need to be a generational safety to be drafted in the top 10 and Starks is not that. (IMO)

I don't think Starks is generational, but I do think the modern NFL, there is no reason not to draft a Safety in the top 10, especially at pick #9. Safety is an important position these days. More importantly, I don't really think any position outside of Kicker and Punter should be taken out of consideration at any spot in any draft. There should be no absolutes in what positions you draft and where. You take the best available player at any position.

Anyway, Starks is far down my list at #9 but if none of those players are there (and that is unlikely) I'm fine taking Starks if there isn't good value in a trade down.

Lots of airbrushing of the facts in this for me, e.g. characterising Ruiz as terrible isn't accurate, he was a borderline starter at RG, rather than a Tony Mandarich-level bust, until he improved into a solid starter. Penning wasn't a failure this year, after two injury-dominated years to start out. The Fuaga pick was perfect meeting of need and BPA and he's been excellent, the guard talk is just fan speculation because of all the OT prospects.

And even if you were entirely accurate, none of it would warrant overdrafting just to give fans a small buzz of excitement on draft day. That doesn't win your team any games, and it never will.

For the DEs I won't argue, though 😉
