Hot Takes Welcome (Post Tampa Bay Loss) (2 Viewers)

Clown it all you want it’s a fact.

07, 08, 14, 15, 16. Those seasons happened.

Take 2016 for example. Saints sitting at 5-8, win 2 of the last 3.
There was a 0% chance to make the playoffs and we could be watching Mahomes and Payton win it all every year if we had picked a few spots higher.
With Payton/Brees, I always felt like we had a chance of winning, no matter whom we were playing. WitH DA, I always feel like: What is he going to do this week to lose?

Also- Payton made it to the NFCCG in year one and won a SB in year 4. He earned the benefit of the doubt to give him grace through a string of poor seasons. DA’s tenure has been 3 seasons of frustrating lack of production and absolutely nothing to be excited about. He hasn’t earned any grace. Totally different situation. SP demonstrated the peaks he could lead us to immediately. DA has been consistently mediocre to bad.

Must have been one heck of a half time speech by DA, the team's inspirational leader. Lol!

I've said it many times, I'm no fan of DA. I was on board with the hire initially as a continuity hire and ready to win now mentality. It was clear in year one that was a failure. We are way past time for change. Expect some meaningless, teaser wins toward the end of the season for DA to make his case yet again for another chance. At least today's game was interesting for a while.

Maybe not. If he’s really lost the team, and it sure feels like he might have, then we shouldn’t expect them to keep fighting for pride at the end of the season as they’ve done the past couple of years.

DA gets an injury pass, will return next year. Denver is a way better defense and you probably aren't getting Olave cleared by Thursday. Saints defense is bad, don't wanna hear about them anymore. Defensive headcoach by the way.
I'm not giving DA any more passes. He is what he is, and that should be no longer employed by the Saints. There needs to be a total makeover of the organization, but I suspect Gayle ain't up to it. I don't like meddling owners, but the hands off type can be equally disastrous.

06, 09, 11, 13, 17 and 19. Best teams in the league those seasons. 06 especially gave Payton the leeway to have a mid season or 2. Then 09 happens. DA has NEVER shown the ability to have that kind of success as a HC. You're comparing apples to oatmeal.

Non-Hot Take: This team in it's current form is bad.

Hot Take: This team is capable of getting back to week 1-2 form if the injured players are given proper time to get healthy.

Hotter Take: DA has not "lost the team."

We do not have an ELITE Def. We have a complementary def a shown by the 2nd qtr. But if off cant sustain drives and put points on the board, the age and lack of depth shows up like we saw in the 2nd half.

Likely will be too little too late, but nobody can expect any team to suffer the amt of injuries we have at key positions and still be able to beat better than lower tier teams.

And Eagles, Chiefs and Bucs are not lower tier. Falcons still TBD

I can't believe I'm saying this, having personally witnessed - in person - the last 2 games. But I truly believe this is a playoff team and I think we can go on a run if we can somehow pull off the win Thursday night and get healthy(-er).

But yeah, I've been dismayed by the defense the past 2 weeks, injuries or not.

Frankly, I hope you're right! While I won't root for losses, an end season swoon dive would surely force Loomis / Benson's hand.

My multiple hot takes:

Kubiak is poor at in-game adjustment.

DA is good at picking secondary players.

Putting Willie Gay on Chris Godwin is pants-on-head.

Alontae Taylor is the best player on the defense right now.

Rattler needs more practice individually with Shaheed. He's gotta get his timing down with him. Carr has played with super-speedy guys before; Rattler hasn't played with anyone who remotely resembles Shaheed's ability to take the top off a defense.

Rattler played well for a rookie, but he's gotta keep his eyes more downfield in the red zone. He did miss a wide open Holker. The other TD pass he missed, I can let slide because there's a possibility he simply couldn't see the open receiver.

Right now we have two decent-good OTs and the guys between them are just barely serviceable if not outright bad. We miss McCoy, Patrick, and Ruiz in the worst way.

Kubiak needs to keep those designed rollouts for Spencer coming. That's exactly his game. Know who else excelled at that? Jameis (seriously, his statistics outside the pocket for his career are gaudy).

Brees was absolutely the GOAT of pocket passers. He was an absolute master of pocket feel, manipulation, and stepping up. That said, he'd get killed behind this OL because the replacement guards are THAT BAD.

I think Kubiak's only real problem is he's just out of ammo in terms of what he has to work with. He can only roll out a QB so many times before a team starts playing for it and his QB gets killed. One thing you'll see Tampa do in the second half is start playing the edges wider making it harder to roll out. With a third/fourth string interior offensive line, a rookie LT, a below average but improving RT, no Hill, no Olave, Kamara playing through injury, AND a backup rookie QB making his first career start... we need to be realistic when talking about the offense and Kubiak right now. Just look at Sean Payton without Drew Brees in 2021.

27 points should be more than enough to win a football game with an elite defensive team...

My understanding is they only had one real day of live practice together this week and no others since training camp. Obviously, Olave was heavily featured in that one practice as well, so not many reps. Rattler has the arm to get to Shaheed at full speed but doesn't trust where that speed is and didn't want to over throw him.
