With the Saints signing Carr, bringing back Thomas and going all in on winning the division, which is arguably the worst division in the NFL, and having a very, very favorable schedule is this the worst or most disappointing Saints season ever?

Now, I know a lot of people will bring up the Archie or Ditka years and I get that. Those were awful teams but they were expected to be terrible. Sure, no one thought we were going to the Super Bowl this year but when you looked at the roster, the division, and the schedule, it was reasonable to assume they’d get the division title. Yet, somehow, this year’s team is worse than last years.

That’s why I’m saying this has to be one of the top 5 most miserable Saints seasons I’ve ever watched. What say you? Where does this season land for you?

I’ve enjoyed watching worse iterations of the team much more than this one. This is my least favorite staff aside from Iron Mike. I only go back to the 80’s tho.
Yeah I think that’s one thing that made it so rough for me. Most of the games weren’t even fun to watch. Just terrible football.

Honestly, when looking at the record. It’s not considered a terrible season.

But it’s a huge disappointment when you look at how historically easy this schedule was and how healthy the team stayed through the first 2.5months of the season.

Disappointing... Yes. Very... But the worst... Not even close .
Yeah, this is it. The poll title itself is clear, but then the lead-in post makes it confusing. Not among the top 5 worst, but easily one of the most disappointing.

I've seen worse, but I don't recall disliking a coaching staff more. In some of those worse seasons I at least felt like we just lacked talent on the field and it's really hard to get around a lack of talent. This team has talent in a lot of spots and the coaches are just putting them in terrible positions to succeed. They don't coach to players strengths and it drives me insane on a weekly basis. I am convinced that with almost any new coaching staff, we would have won more games this season because fresh eyes evaluating this roster couldn't possibly misuse players the way this staff does.

This is where I’m at.

The talent level (and record) are far better than any of the worst. But seeing the talent so badly mismanaged is a punch in the gut because it feels wasted. Which seems worse than just being bad, IMO.

I agree and also, to me, what makes it pretty disappointing is if you compare the Saints all in approach to the Bucs. The Bucs are more than likely going to win the division and they basically approached this season as a lost season. They are doing a soft rebuild and signed Mayfield as a stop gap. Yet they have looked so much better.

Just makes it seem more embarrassing that the Saints went all in on winning the division and yet looked so awful.

I agree with this. The talent keeps this team from being the worst. The schedule helped keep them from the worst record. The division kept them mathematically alive.

But I enjoyed watching worse teams far more than this one. Because I know theres an egomaniac in the FO letting his hubris wreck a franchise, a bottom 10 all time HC being allowed to continue, and an OC who's ceiling should be "offensive helper".

I grew up in the Mora era. So I dont know the pain you guys felt in the 70s and early 80s.

But, I know that our players, on a week in week out basis, are handicapped by their own sideline. It just makes everything about this current team the least enjoyable I can ever remember watching.

Based on quality of the team when it comes to talent

This would be by far the worst team in Saints history.

now the teams in the past are ofcourse WORSE teams.. but

you have the easiest schedule in the NFL - Check
you have a 3 WR set that coming in could argueable compete for top 5 in the NFL for 3 WR sets - Check
you have Jimmy Graham who has proven that short yardage is virtually unstoppable but you never use him - Check
your play calling to win a game was 4 verticals 4 downs in a row - Check
you blow multiple leads and give away games - Check

I mean I can go on and on..

you literally have a top 10 talent wise team in the organization's history.. and brought in one of the top 5 worst seasons based on this in your organization's history

NOW.. ofcourse there were WORSE teams.. that had atrociously worse talent in our past.

but this season was far beyond inexcuseable on a professional football level.

I literally could go grab a local peewee coach to be a OC for the Saints that would have had much better play design. Than what we had for 80% of the season.
