Out of curiosity what did 2021 look like? I seem to remember that stat coming up a lot. But it might have been no opening drive TD's.
Saints scored on four opening drives in 2021, with only one TD. The average % of scores for all opening drives since 2001 is about six per season in a 17-game season, with 3.6 TD's and 2.4 FG's.

The easiest schedule in the worst division, and they're still staring at 7-10 for two straight years.

Says it all...

I can count on 1 hand the number of times I've turned a Saints game off in disgust. 2 of them have been this year.

I can remember turning couple off while I was in the dome itself watching. Of course that was after a long Saturday night
and Sunday morning

you literally have a top 10 talent wise team in the organization's history.. and brought in one of the top 5 worst seasons based on this in your organization's history
This is not even close to a Top 10 Talent team and ultimately they arent far off from where I thought they would finish.

From a historical organizational stand point....
  • Carr is a bottom tier QB - I would mark him below Blake, Hebert, and Everett
  • RBs are solid but we have had plenty of great RBs historically - Kamara might be become the best of them all.
  • TEs - Jimmy G is old and this might be one of our worst sets. John Tice and Hobby Brenner were arguably on a better TE squads than this set.
  • OLine - perhaps the worst. I hated the Wayne Gandy, Kendall "flag me please" Jacox, and Turnstile Riley line but even they were better. You have to go back to the Stram days to fine a worse Oline and even thats debatable.
  • WRs - This might be a top 5 unit for the saints but with injuries factored in I would put them at 5 at best. Individually each of them would struggle to crack the historical top 10 Saints WR.

  • DLine - Not a top 10 historical unit. Love Jordan but he is old and he shows it.
  • LBers - I love DD and Werner was really solid in previous seasons. That said we only really have 2 as the NFL has made LBers less significant. Not sure where I would rank them historically, maybe top 5. Still better than the Haslett days. But calling this team talented reminds me of the days when SR was pumped up about Colby Bockwoldt and talking about how Cie Grant was going to convert from a S to a LBer.
  • CBs - Fairly solid maybe one of our best CB units from top to bottom, but we have had some good corners historically. Lattimore on IR would have to be factored in.
  • S- We have had worse but we have also had much better. I would put this unit as middle of the pack historically. Honey Badger is old.

  • STs - Love JT Gray and Darren Rizzi, possibly the best Coach on the staff. But still this ST unit doesnt compare historically to our punters or our kickers.
Awful Coaching - yes definitely but talented not at all.

name a more disappointing season, I defy you.
Recency Bias.

Not really the most disappointing. At best I was hoping to make the playoffs and lose out in the wildcard game we still could. Here are some disappointments I remember...

2002 - only 2 seasons removed from winning our first ever playoff game and we got shafted on the tie breaker for a wild card spot even after beating Carolina... thanks Doug Brien.

2003 - once again on the verge of a playoff spot. Then there was the River City Relay followed by a missed PAT. The fact that so many Saints fans despised John Carney who is a legendary kicker shows just how disappointing the season finish was.

1991 - One of the most dominant defenses in the history of the NFL and perhaps the greatest K ever. We steam rolled our first 7 opponents and than lost in OT to the Falcons to fall to 9-3. We still won the NFC West previously dominated by the 40-whiners. But then Atlanta knocked us out in the wildcard game.

2011 - 13-3 that was a team filled with real expectations and then we got beat by Coach John Harbaugh and Vernon Davis. That disappointment still hurts in the pit of my stomach.

2014 to 2016 - referred to as the Grienbrier years 3 straight 7-9 teams under one of the best QBs of all time. I really enjoyed the Greenbrier but that was some disappointing days with far more talent. We are 7-8 right now with a team that is far worse.

2018 - There is nothing more soul deflating of a disappointment than this robbery. I HATE the NFL because of this game. I didnt even bother watching half our games this season live on Sundays because this bologna still lingers in my heart.
