The Ditka years in the late 90s were far worse. There was no hope for years of the team doing anything, I remember everyone at school just talking trash how much they stink until the we got to the point of ignoring them completely.

Now, I would say that this year is certainly up there for most disappointing because of the talent on the field and that weak schedule should have easily spelled at least 10 wins as the minimum expectation.

I do not want to give the defense a pass on this seasons meltdown, but they have very fixable holes to fill next season. Cam and Davis may not be back next year. We will lose some experience, but we will get younger at those positions.

The Offense is a mess, going back to last yr. The O line is a mess...........again! we Draft LT bust. Then we reup Ruiz, and gave an extension to a bad player, because we could get him at a good deal.

We still don't know if it is Carr, Pete C. , or the O line.

Every QB that has played in this system has been made better in this system....Drew, Teddy, Jamies, Taysom, Trevor, Andy. They all had mixed results, but all could throw TDs. All looked better in our system, than their previous teams.

Except..................Carr!!!!! He is the only exception. He doesn't look better. What did we change on offense this season, Carr and Penning starting. When your big $150 mill FA QB underwhelms and your LT busts out. You add a gaslighting GM, an unimaginative play caller, and an unemotional conservative HC. We never had a chance guys.

I think the big frustration with this year’s team is that it feels like the parts are greater than the sum. It’s week after week of mediocre football, and when they win it’s just because the other team was more mediocre, so those games aren’t even fun to watch because it’s two bad teams bumping uglies for three hours. I can’t remember the last time this team came out and played over their heads to pull an upset.

Disappointed.

I have seen much worse in my almost 40 years of fandom but this is by far the most disappointing. Awful Saints teams in the past had bad players, bad coaches but a forgiving fan base. We loved our “lovable losers”. We made fun of it with the Aints and bagheads. It was party to a degree.

I’ve said this before. The Saints of old were horrible and fans were just happy to win a game. Then they got pretty good under Mora. Expectations were raised but tempered. And after Mora, were the Ditka error and the Haslett era and under Haslett, they were good. And then by the grace of God himself, the Saints landed Sean Payton and Drew Brees and the Saints went from good to great. From a laughing stock to respected. To a team with stupid moves to one with a solid reputation. Yes, there were some missed but more hits than not. With that Super Bowl win, the Aints were laid to rest. Gone!

Now under Dennis Allen, this team is disappointing. All the talent in the world but so poorly coached. Derek Carr is beyond a bad move. Dennis Allen cannot motivate anyone. Fair to say that the Aints are back. Couple that with Loomis Math starting to erode and the Piper is a calling, this franchise is truly headed for dark days. The opposite of great is good and the opposite of good is bad. Well, this group of millionaires is awful so they have quite the ladder to climb. The Saints are now a place where great athletes do not want to play. Salary cap hell, a lame duck coach, a thinning fan base and doom and gloom on the horizon, why would any great player with options want to play for the Saints? And having that taste of great eroded that forgiving fan base. Wins are what count now. Period.

The worst thing that will happen to a team is apathy. It’s the Vince McMahon theory: if they are cheering, great. If they are booing, great. If they are doing nothing, you have problems. The Saints now have problems and if the rumors are true with Dennis Allen staying on another year, 2024 is already over. We know the outcome and it’s losing.

Disappointed.

in the beginning it was still a game, and we were so bad at it we enjoyed it as entertainment

it's no longer a game and by its own admission now "entertainment", yet this coaching staff makes far less enjoyable

there have been worse times, ditka being the nadir

and of course, there was this guy

I was a bit young to be paying attention to coaches when Bum was coach, but looking back on his record, he was pretty bad. Although even he got the team to 8 wins in 1983. Are we expecting another win this season?
Bum gave up on us and turned us into an Oilers Good Old Boys Club. Traded Archie for a washed up LT, brought in Stabler who was so far on the wrong side of the hill he was on level ground. He didn't just quit on us he destroyed what little good he did while he still cared. Set us back years.

We're the best bad team in the League.

Surprisingly he's still coaching IIRC...maybe give him a holler...if we're going to be mediocre stop half assing it

Stat I saw during lunch, we have only one opening drive score this year. We averaged 6-7 during the Payton years and 4-5 during the Haslett years. We had six last year.

So worst Saints season for opening drives since drive stats were kept (starting in 2001).

And goes without saying, but we have the highest % of opening drives ending in a punt or turnover this season.

I've seen worse, but I don't recall disliking a coaching staff more. In some of those worse seasons I at least felt like we just lacked talent on the field and it's really hard to get around a lack of talent. This team has talent in a lot of spots and the coaches are just putting them in terrible positions to succeed. They don't coach to players strengths and it drives me insane on a weekly basis. I am convinced that with almost any new coaching staff, we would have won more games this season because fresh eyes evaluating this roster couldn't possibly misuse players the way this staff does.
Yes this 100%

Out of curiosity what did 2021 look like? I seem to remember that stat coming up a lot. But it might have been no opening drive TD's.
