How did Carolina beat Baltimore? ...We should do the same... (1 Viewer)

j, lewis is near the bottom in rushing yds so that is good, though heap could be a problem for us - stoutmire\bellamy will have their hands full

the are number 3 in defense, the best defense we faced up till now was carolina at number 17 - but 3 of the teams they faced were oak, clev, and TB (sims), but they have beaten SD , lost to den and car

YPG RUSH YPG PASS YPG PTS/G

252.0 71.2 180.8 11.5

they have 2 LBs each with 5 sacks (scott, thomas)

i hope we start off quick, shake the bye week off on the first series,

I agree that the Saints need to come out fast and get up on the Ravens. I'm not sure about Carolina being the best we have faced on D? Philly had the #1 pass rush, I think?

I would absolutely LOVE for the Saints to get Brian Leonard out of Rutgers... He's a 6'2" RB/FB tweener with good speed, great hands, and good strength and athleticsm. He won't be there in the 4th though.

Deshawn Wynn out of Florida is a bigger, stout, RB that could be there on the 2nd day due to his lack of speed.

BOOO ON YOU

I was planning a big off-season preview where I was going to talk about Leonard joining the Saints to make a 3 headed beast in the backfield.

You're correct, he'd be a great Fullback and could flex to the HB position to replace Deuce in inside/short yardage situations. In this case you could still keep only 5 RBs (HB, HB, HB, FB/HB, FB).

Problem is he's probably a late first rounder. Sure we'd have the draft pick for him, but we've got other (more critical) needs as well.

Sacks don't nessecarily equate to defensive success. Philly's defense is way down this season, as we demonstrated when we played them.

Carolina not only was the best defense we've faced thus far, they'll be the best defense we play all season. Their D is better then Baltimore's.

You really think so? I think he'll for sure be a 1st day pick, but a 1st rounder? He's not the type to come in and be a team's "featured" back, and FBs usually don't go until the 2nd day no matter what. It's possible he could be the "gem" that slips to the early 4th round.

Whatever happens, someone's gonna get a heckuva player in Leonard.

Well the fact that he is really a "flex" player is what drives his stock up. He isn't just a blocking fullback. He has good speed and moves to be as big as he is, outstanding hands, and a RB's vision.

I think a lot of teams are seeing the trend to 2 backs in the NFL these days, especially what the Giants are doing with Tiki/Jacobs, and a number of teams are going to look at Leonard as an option there. It's actually a little similiar in concept to how we use Reggie but "big". You can line Leonard up as a FB, HB, TE, etc. So a team like the Steelers who have been searching for a big back (is Davenport really a long-term answer?) might love to take a flier on a guy like Leonard to pair up with Willie Parker.

Of course, all of this depends on how his combine goes. If he comes out and busts a 4.6 or worse he can kiss any high pick good by. If he can get his time around 4.5 though, yeah, I see him in the late first to second round.

Only because of Steck's lack of size... I'm impressed with the way Stecker will hit the hole hard and stick his head in there. He runs hard for a smallish guy.

Stecker also gets the ball out of the empty set quite a bit, it seems.

I love Colston and Horn but they aren't exactly Steve Smith.

Then why not put Reggie out wide, and have him run some actual routes besides just taking a step backwards and getting the quick hitter, or a 5 yard out or comeback? Have him run the same type patterns the WRs would run. Am I crazy to think that Reggie Bush is every bit the athlete Steve Smith is and then some? Sure, Reggie's not the polished WR Smith is, but he's got great hands, super great speed, great strength, and agility. Then, we could line up Horn or Colston in the slot, and they would most likely be matched up on a nickle or dime CB... How sweet would it be to see Ronnie Prude matched up on Horn or Colston?

We will win because of Duece, the best running back in the NFL.
