They have also said that if Bowers is there @ 14 you run to the podium
They've said a lot of things. The one I listened to this morning Nick said he's almost 100% sure we're going to take the best OT available at 14.

I mean, if they really don't want to change the line due to continuity, why didn't they already sign Peat to start at LT?
I understand Mickey's point of view, but with the Ram injury and losing your staring LT in Peat, the entire line is going to have to change anyway. And, given that we are moving to a new scheme which will require starting all over in learning to play together, now is a good time to get better/young talent on the OL and let them learn together.
It is. Penning is going into year 3, so although he'd be new at LT compared to the end of the season, he won't be new. LG could/should be new. C, and RG will be the same and RT should the the same initially. Draft a RT to ease in and be ready for when Ram is done and now we have a revamped/young OL with McCoy being the old hat and Ruiz behind him, but still very young considering he came into the NFL at 20 y/o. This is the year to work in more than 1 new player due to the change in scheme.
I'm fine if that's the plan. Hopefully Penning is ready at LT and Saldiveri (or a rookie) can step up at LG. RT is still a concern, but could be solved at #14 and maybe at #45. But, it will be interesting to see what they would do if Fashanu falls to #14. Do they take him and move Penning to RT? Do they take him and move him to RT (doesn't seem likely)? Do they pass and take Latham or Fuaga? Do they take another position and look for a RT at #45?
Some of this probably depends on how confident they are in Penning, Hurst, Ram, and Landon Young. It also probably depends on how confident they are that the new scheme will make the OL that they have look better.
He will be a top 8 pick. Are you ready to trade up?
Again, that's an estimated time. He didn't run any testing at either of the Georgia Pro Days (see tweet below). His last recorded time in the 40 was a 4.5 as a Sophomore in High School. Which is why I provided all the supporting evidence of his elite explosiveness in my previous post with his elite ability to make big plays that has dwarfed even Kyle Pitts ability to make big plays when combining his College/NFL career's (6 seasons).
Brock Bowers is rated by the vast majority of media, draftniks, and scouts that have commented on him as an elite TE prospect that is up there with the best TE prospects. He finds himself in a unique position in this draft with the sheer amount of QB's expected to go early along with 3 WR's that are also expected to go top 10. In most drafts Bowers is a sure fire top 10 pick. This draft "might" work out differently due to unique circumstances.
Damn you Clemms, I'm trying to explain how the NFL evaluates elite talents and you come and say he's generational and blow up my argument right behind meBowers has generational level talent for the position. There are very few elite TE's in the NFL. I think TE is the most undervalued position in the league by teams. The only player that could possibly be sitting there at our slot I would pick ahead of him is Penix.
I think both are off the board when we pick though.
SP ain't gonna be there at 12, you KNOW he's trading up for a QB, but I get what you're saying. If he's there @ 12 I'm calling SP and offering him next yr's 3rd or 4th to move up
I pretty much agree, but to fair, Ram was the only one taken in the 1st.And regarding the comments that Olinemen are boring …
Armstead, Evans, Nicks, Ram, Brown, Strief, De Le Puente, Grubbs, Bushrod, Goodwin, Stinchcomb and a couple of others.
These are the kind of players that allowed Drew Brees to maximize his potential.
You win football games in the trenches.
Sorry. I didn't put much effort because this thread is like my wife asking me what number to pick for the powerball. Not gonna happen at 14.Damn you Clemms, I'm trying to explain how the NFL evaluates elite talents and you come and say he's generational and blow up my argument right behind me
Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez
I understand the feelings, but this narrative does conveniently ignore the Ben Watson years, including a 74-825-6 season at age 35.Ever since Jimmy Graham left we've had a huge hole in that position. And yes it can be a bust, but so can any of these QB's that will go high and that won't prevent the teams there from taking him.
If Jared Cook doesn't fumble the ball, Brady doesn't get it 7th ring and we might have another. Tired of this position being ignored.
That’s not true though. There are a ton of people saying he is THAT level of talent. For example, he was clocked at 21.9 mph on his 89 yard touchdown by RAanalytics. To my knowledge that is the fastest time they have ever recorded by a TE. He has freakish speed for someone that is 240+ lbs. I also stand corrected on his prior 40 time out of high school, it was 4.48, which according to NFL Draft Buzz for TE’s would place him in the 98th percentile. That combined with a documented 40” vertical is absolutely freakish and rare to find.Ahh, touche on the estimated times.
Listen, I see your argument, I understand your argument, but it's not my mind you have to change. It doesn't matter who you ask, even the guys who are fans of Bowers, they'll tell you...he's not a freak at TE. Whether you want to call that elite, generational, whatever you are tying your argument to...Bowers isn't THAT level of talent.
He’s not a freak because of his size, he’s a freak because of his rare explosive athleticism while being around the same size as some of the best TE’s in the NFL. Kittle, Laporta, Kincaid, and Mcbride all are very similar from a size perspective and have had a ton of success early on in their careers so far and look to be among the best TE’s in the NFL for the foreseeable future. None of them were as athletic or productive as Bowers coming into the NFL.It's not saying he isn't a talent...it's just saying he's not a freak guy. You can find a ton of 6'3 243 TE's in drafts with his arm length and size. You can't find as many of them having great success in the NFL. It is what it is man, I don't know how else you want to hear it lol.
