I guess I need to stop eating red meat. (1 Viewer)

Serving sizes are definitely an issue
I eat one large (at least reasonably healthy) meal and then a couple of protein/nutrition supplement drinks a day

True

compare a standard portion size today versus 50 years ago

I know, right? Science was wrong that one time in the 70s, so we should ignore it into perpetuity.
Stop speaking in rhetoric and intimating what it is you think I'M saying and say straightforwardly what YOU'RE saying.

Also, I can't even read that study on that link because I've used up my Guardian free reading apparently.

An enlightening experiment for those with a good kitchen food scale, is to weigh out 54 g of sugar - the amount that is in a 20 oz bottle of regular coke.

Then imagine eating it all with a spoon. Most of us would start puking after a half dozen spoons.

Wonder how the coke company can make that much sugar palatable in a single beverage? They actually add bittering agents to offset the disgusting level of sweetness we would otherwise experience.

Not kidding.

Blows my mind.

Interesting.

I'm saying you and me, and several other individuals in this thread and around the world, are falling victim to logical fallacies and it hinders meaningful progress. It's one reason we're all dying of diabetes and the Earth's surface temperature has increased 2 degrees since pre-industrial times. If you'd like a "reason" why I'm pointing this out, its' because I'd like to encourage an attempt to review of these things on the merits and not dismiss out of hand based on our predispositions or in-group biases so that we can stop killing ourselves and maintain a habitable world for our children.

They've demonized the hell out of salt but yet sugar is in EVERYTHING.
It's not just that sugar is in everything, it's that a TON of sugar is in every thing

I'm pretty sure I've posted this before but I know every now and then there is a push to replace grams of sugar with teaspoons

And the industry fights tooth and nail against it

Why?

Because a teaspoon of sugar is something most people can visualize and wrap their heads around

Is 11 grams of sugar a lot of sugar? Not a lot of sugar?

But most people know that 28 teaspoons of sugar is a shirt ton of sugar (and that's for a can of tomato soup that doesn't even taste sweet)

So you accept the 'science' of the research that is the subject of this thread?

Because there is literally nothing scientific about the methodology here and yet the media is running with it like it's gospel truth

My Wife and I just celebrated our 46 year wedding anniversary , we went to a great steakhouse , I ordered a 16 oz. prime rib steak medium/well and loved every minute of it . People with diabetes yes do have to watch what they eat and I truly hate that for them . Needless to say a long time ago I read an article that said mother's breast milk was bad for babies , instead they should drink baby formula . I thought well now that's just crazy ( wonder what they did before making formula ) . Peace out !

Yeah people trash fast food but sit down resteraunts are no better and frequently worse. Went to one yesterday that listed its calories on the menu (most do not) and every single burger and most entrees were at least 1000 calories, add fries and it’s another 500. At say McDs or Wendy’s it’s actually easier to stay under 1000. 1500 is over half the calorie budget for everyone that isn’t a pro athlete or works something like construction. And alot people are just not going to have enough control/forethought to eat the other two meals small (500 or less) and not snack In between, or alternatively just not finish the full meal.

I tell ya after my diabetes incident the two things I learned that matter most are how much I ate and how much I exercised.

Everything in moderation. Salmon is good for me. If I eat it every day it’s not good for me.

Simple stuff.

You know how hard it is to find Tomato sauce or Spagetti sauce without added sugar?
I do Keto on and off, and let me tell you, most stores do not have this option.
