I Hate the Internal Revenue Service (1 Viewer)

My degree is in Accounting and when I graduated from college the IRS tried to recruit me. They offered me good money and good benefits, but I just could not see myself going to work every day and sitting across from someone that was being audited and know that was the worst day of their year. It was hard as hell not to take their money when I didn't have a job, but I just couldn't do it.

I did ask my Tax professor one day why Tax law was so dang complicated and he told me that I wanted it to be complicated because that gave me job security as an accountant. Best of luck resolving your issues. My father died fighting with the IRS.

This system wasn't developed for you so it's not there to service you. But don't worry, There are many Americans devoted to continuing to vote to ensure that by the off chance you do join the top 1%, it will.

Since you're here complaining, I'm going to assume you haven't been enabling the folks that think tax breaks should be made easy for the rich and confusing for the middle class.
Please stop politicizing posts. @Saint by the Bay hates that.

I dont get your point. I've been in in situations where family income is less than 20k and tax paperwork and deduction were extremely easy. Now that I make a considerable income and own a ranch the tax paperwork is insane.

To explain, I work, wife works, then the income from the ranch.

they do some weird stuff and not a whole lot of explanation...i have got 2 random bank deposits from them the past couple of months and my accountant has no idea why...said a letter should arrive some time...i know i already got my tax refund so it is not that...but even my tax rerund got modified by them and added a chunk that is not explained...so i am just putting the money in savings for them cuz i know it is not free money...i dont want to have an issue one day when they come for their money.

Actually it’s @Andrus, the founder and owner of the site that makes the rules, not me. Nice try attempting to take a shot at me though. Swing and a miss, but I applaud the effort.
Could also make an argument that was calling out moderation which usually comes with a week or two 'vacation' or just outright ban.

Just a reminder for everyone.

i am now dealing with similar sheet too. about 6k.

can't accuse them of not being persistent though.

About 3 years ago, we got a notice in June that we had not paid our taxes for the previous year and were being assessed penalties/etc. We responded to the notice with a copy of the canceled check that they had received the first week of April. Then in October, we got another letter threatening liens/garnishment/etc. Luckily, wife's brother is a tax attorney that contacted the IRS on our behalf. He said they didn't understand why the letters ever went out, because the issue had been resolved BEFORE THEY SENT OUT THE FIRST LETTER!

Well, they've "received" my returns, but:

Your amended return was received on June 10, 2021. However, it has not been processed. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Please call 800-xxx-xxxx, extension xxx, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. You will need a copy of your amended return.

Strange development & I didn't even notice this when I read the message to call them. They actually received the amended returns on June 10th. I didn't realize it until I asked the IRS person (again) why it took so long to receive them and she told me that they were received June 10th. Then it finally registered in my brain. She has no idea why, up until now, they've not shown as being received. Good news is that they process them within 20 weeks of receiving, so hopefully it will be soon. 20 weeks would be tomorrow, but I'm not holding my breath. Sometime before Christmas would be nice. :D

My ongoing battle over my 2018 return that started with them sending me a $28,000(!) supplemental tax bill that was clearly in error was finally resolved last week after about 10 rounds of back and forth over the last 18 months. They finally agreed I don't owe them another gddam dime.

It can happen!
