Shanahan has a tendency to try to be too cute with play calling in big game. That muffed punt killed their game plan. San Fran let them stick around with self inflicted wounds until Mahomes did his thing.

They had 1 play to win the Super Bowl, 3rd down inside the 10. And choked it away. Again. Purdy? Drops back? And panics? And throws it away? Ok. You lose.

Shanahan lost because he went conservative in OT when they got down close. 2 straight running plays, the 2nd was an absolute turd of a run into a stacked defensive line; no misdirection, no one in motion.

I knew the game was over then and the Chiefs would win.

There were more factors in the game than play calling. Yeah he got away from the run a bit but KC was keying on it as well. Biggest issues in the game were special teams , No punt return fumble = no KC TD. No missed XP , then KC has to go for the TD . Special teams and Steve Wilks not concentrating on PM lost this game

This game only gives even highly-talented, creative, innovative HC's so many chances and after tonight, Kyle Shanahan is 0-3, one as a OC in Atlanta, and two as Niners HC. The one, biggest, over-arching variable is that all of these games, Shanahan's teams were up with sizable leads and he singularly failed to close the games. And lets not forget those NFCCG losses in 2021-22. Shanahan will likely continue to be a very successful, innovative, winning HC with more winning seasons ahead of him, but how many more chances is he going to have?

It took Shanahan 4 years to get back to another Super Bowl and in that time, the world around him and us radically changed, who's to say how much hell and mental, physical stress will he have to go through to get anywhere close to appearing in another SB?

Nah. When they started running on that last drive it was the first time their offense had any rhythm and had worked since the first half. KC just made a good run stop near the goal line and Purdy isn't a guy that can win the game for you on his own. Mahomes is.

Agreed brother. I'm not going to put it all on Shanahan and I'm dang not going to put this win on Mahomes. Special teams was the deciding facts but that 3rd down rush from Jones was the game winner. 1/2 second more and that's probably a TD.

LOL.....did you see Chris Jones get to him? We can say what Mahomes would or wouldn't do but trying to say that Purdy can't win the game for you and Mahomes can takes away what the defense really brought. Things outside of Mahomes turned the game and if anything, the defense were the stars of the show, but I get it..
