I Think Sometimes We Focus on the Wrong Things (My Thoughts on Derek Carr Catching Backlash for Not Being in the City) (40 Viewers)

But it's not a great look when your two back up QBs show up, your former backup, your predecessor, two guys that got signed as street free agents mid-season (MVS and CEH). The entire sports media apparatus is in the city right now and it's an opportunity to do some good PR for himself, the city, and the team. Nobody is saying he's obligated to attend but it would be a smart thing to do to show his face for a minute while the biggest sporting event in the world is being hosted in the city he works in
That man has personal obligations. People do have lives outside of football. I never wonder who is going to be there or not. Always thought players just want to be there for the screen time and the festivities. Some people just want their quiet moments. This thing is just as bad as the uproar with his restaurant of choice. Even if he show up someone is going to hate on him for showing his face. That man can't win.

I don't know what that means about sentiments.

But anyway, I don't care where Carr eats with his family and made no comment about that so I don't know why you are bringing it up in response to me.

However, it is clear that he hasn't embraced the city and doesn't really care to be here other than when he has to be here. You can tell the guys who do in Demario Davis, Cam Jordan, etc. And yes, part of the deal with being the starting QB of the Saints is to be part of the community and be a culture bearer for the city. Part of that means showing up to talk up the city during the Super Bowl when it is here.

Of course, it's his right to not be here. But, it's also the right of fans to say that they want a QB who does embrace the city and who does care about the city. At the same point, I get why fans that don't live here and/or aren't from here might not care so much about it.

And yes, you can tell if a player loves the city or not and Carr clearly does not. Carr just might not be the right fit to be the starting QB in New Orleans. Doesn't make him a bad guy or a bad QB, but in the end it's probably in the interest of Carr, the Saints, and Saints fans that they part ways with no hard feelings.
DD and Cam have been here way longer than DC. And why would you embrace a city that has spewed hate on you from the 1st place you ate with your family. And booed you because you were not Drew Brees

Yeah I'm going to warm up to a city when yr I get here this is what I see. That's Philly fans level

I was curious if Carr improved this past season in red zone efficiency, but I can't find it anywhere.

This backlash started on radio row with several local media people said that they see everyone but Derek Carr and asked why he wasn't here representing the city. This was not something the fans started. I think the biggest problem Carr has is that this isn't just another city, like Las Vegas or Oakland, its New Orleans, the connection to the Saints the fans have is just different.

You're saying that because that's what your bias leads you to think and say.

I wonder what actual statistical facts say about it. I looked for that particular stat line, but couldn't find it.
I’m saying that because I can’t remember him throwing more than 3 tds inside the 20 all last season when he was In games.

“Why won’t Derek stayyyyy all yearrrrr :mecry::mecry::mecry::mecry:

It’s like people forget who they are. Geezy is right: this fanbase is full of people who pride themselves on being petulant bullies. Some people threatened to buy a billboard to fire the coach last season - then brought a banner to the coaches’ meetings. And the zombie float. He’s got y’alls message. Y’all can’t stand him and can’t wait for him to be gone, but dress it up in “we just have highhhhhh standardsssssss hereeeee” when that is no excuse at all to be perpetually sour, mean jackasses.

Brees said it best when he told Zion that if you love New Orleans it will love you back.

And I'd be willing to bet that Carr doesn't spend much time on Twitter and likely has no idea what is being said. He also probably wouldn't care if he did know.
What Zion heard Brees say was “if you love the food, it will love you back.”

And it’s been all down hill from there.

This x100.

If he's that thin-skinned, he can kick rocks. He's not the first to get mocked in a parade. He won't be the last.

Why was he mocked?

The ‘23 Saints were 9-5 in games he started & finished.

Again, the “we have high standards now” crowd got way too over their skis and they’ve done/said things they can’t take back. It’s not about thin skin, it’s about being unnecessarily trifling yet also magically expecting such behavior to turn him into Drew Brees II. It’s verbalized dissatisfaction with his contract despite being utterly clueless about how QB pay has escalated since the headline-grabber Drew Brees signed a full Chinese zodiac ago, thinking he “didn’t deserve” the contract he got, and wishing for his predecessor to keep playing on dirt-cheap “prove it” contracts forever. It’s a large group of people who have to look within and decide if this is who they want to continue to be. I hate that I’m running out of places to talk about this team without being expected to join in on a badmouthing bashfest.

I find it funny people can mock him and tell him to suck it up and get over it but get up in arms because he doesn't show up for Super Bowl. Fans need to get over it.
