I Think Sometimes We Focus on the Wrong Things (My Thoughts on Derek Carr Catching Backlash for Not Being in the City) (38 Viewers)

No kidding. Besides, the Superbowl is not New Orleans culture. I could see if the moaning was about him leaving for Mardi Gras or something.
How come?

I don't know. New Orleans is different than other cities. It's differences are WHY the Super Bowl comes so often. What the team means to the city is different than what some other teams mean to theirs.

Obviously, there is no requirement for him to do the things many others have done. But he IS the QB. The supposed face of the Saints franchise. And he's nowhere to be found during footballs biggest week in the city he plays for. It's a weird look. Maybe he's just not a good fit culturally and to many Saints fans that is sometimes as important as how they play. Jameis being prime example of that. Is it fair? Maybe not. But lots of things aren't fair.
No one but some Saints fans care that Carr isn't there. No one outside of New Orleans is thinking about Carr. I guarantee you, more people thought about Taylor Swift in N.O. than Carr in N.O.

He's the exception that proves the rule. Yes, it's possible to do it, but you have to have a lot of really strong leadership around him for that to work. And again, Philly is a very different place than New Orleans.

Also, just because you haven't heard anything from Hurts doesn't mean he isn't doing lots of talking or doing lots of things in Philly or with his teammates.
Jalen Hurts is 46-20 as a starter, was drafted to the team and has been to two Pro Bowls and now two Super Bowls appearances. Fans will cut a guy like that some slack

It doesn’t matter who cares. The reality is that the city and therefore the team was in the spotlight and the starter at the most important position in football didn’t show up.

I overall agree but I do think the QB position is different than other positions on the team. I tend to think that a QB that does adapt to the culture and learns to love the city he plays in, especially when you are talking about a smaller market like New Orleans, Green Bay, etc., is likely a better leader for the team and is likely going to care more than a player that is literally just here because he is getting paid. Doesn't mean he has to live here 100% of the time, but it helps to truly love and get the city where you play. For instance, Brees spent much of the offseason living in San Diego, but he clearly loved and got New Orleans.

That's doesn't obligate Carr to do so and I don't blame him if he doesn't get or love New Orleans having grown up in California and played out West for his entire football career, but at the same point maybe if he doesn't love New Orleans and doesn't embrace the culture, maybe he isn't the right QB for New Orleans?

Those are all nice sentiments, but just that, sentiments...you really can tell if a player "loves" a city, or he's just doing it for PR.

And Carr specifically,... it'd be hard for me to embrace a city that doesn't embrace me. That whole Chipotle fiasco, who the heck cares where Carr eats with his family?

I wonder how long until the fans turn on Kellen Moore? I have a feeling he’s going to get ripped to pieces.
As soon as Moore makes a decision that goes against what some fans want, Moore will get ripped apart by those fans, unless the Saints are dominating teams. He'll have to dominate teams, because just winning won't be enough if he dares to do something a certain group of fans don't like.

I don't know why Moore would ripped so early in his tenure.
This is what a lot of Saints wanted.
A Young offensive playcaller with no ties to SP.

I didn’t know that he wasn’t in town for the Super Bowl until this post. That is a huge red flag IMO.

It’s not just about New Orleans culture.

It’s about the Super Bowl being in your current teams’ city and you should want to be around it to some extent as an NFL player that aspires to reach the Super Bowl. If he wasn’t even out there for a day or two during this week, then idk how much he cares about the city or the Super Bowl itself.

There is no requirement to be there at the Super Bowl he could be on Mars for all I care that doesn't mean he doesn't support New Orleans in fact I wouldn't be there if I didn't have to be why would I? My team isn't playing in the Super Bowl why should I go? That is like being upset with Saints fan not attending the Super Bowl because their team isn't in it. That is just silly.

I don't know what that means about sentiments.

But anyway, I don't care where Carr eats with his family and made no comment about that so I don't know why you are bringing it up in response to me.

However, it is clear that he hasn't embraced the city and doesn't really care to be here other than when he has to be here. You can tell the guys who do in Demario Davis, Cam Jordan, etc. And yes, part of the deal with being the starting QB of the Saints is to be part of the community and be a culture bearer for the city. Part of that means showing up to talk up the city during the Super Bowl when it is here.

Of course, it's his right to not be here. But, it's also the right of fans to say that they want a QB who does embrace the city and who does care about the city. At the same point, I get why fans that don't live here and/or aren't from here might not care so much about it.

And yes, you can tell if a player loves the city or not and Carr clearly does not. Carr just might not be the right fit to be the starting QB in New Orleans. Doesn't make him a bad guy or a bad QB, but in the end it's probably in the interest of Carr, the Saints, and Saints fans that they part ways with no hard feelings.

I’m wondering where Kellen Moore will go for his first meal in N.O.? Will it be a locally-owned joint or will it be a national chain? Will it be a po-boy at Mahoney’s or a cheesesteak from Jersey Mike’s? Either way, I’m certain it’ll be a hundred-page thread on here 😁
Hopefully those in the know bring him somewhere legit….embrace it, Kellen. You will not be let down. Whodat

I don’t blame the guy for wanting to be where his family and friends are. His kids probably made most of their friends somewhere else before moving to NOLA also.

Saints twitter is unbearable when it comes to Carr, and they hyped up Rattler so much even though he wasn’t ready. A lot of group think going on there.
Yep. It’s just a business to the vast majority of players. Their careers. Fans are the ones who get emotionally invested lol. And I said vast majority, there are exceptions.

Hopefully Nick lets him take the job at all.
