If hired, who’d be Mike McCarthy’s OC hire? (1 Viewer)

Fixed. I have no idea why weve decided to make Rattler out to be something he was absolutely not.

The guy is a 5th round draft pick. Played like a 5th round draft pick. You dont build franchises or hire coaches around him. If he develops into a journeman #2, id consider that a win for him. He is not franchise QB material.
Maybe I should’ve said future QB draft pick. I

I don’t think the rebuild is as dire as it’s being made out to be here, but we shall see.

Health and competent coaching are what’s ailing this team more than anything. There are some roster holes to fix but we aren’t a 5-12 type team when actually healthy.
It would be nice to have a first-team All-Pro on defense, but I'm beating a dead horse.

I probably need therapy.

An interesting read. I wonder if McCarthy will bring over a few FA cowboys with him.

Semi OT. I took out the years where SP and MM didn't have their starting QB for most of the year (21 for SP when Brees retired). Records:

Really warming up to MM if we don't swing for the fences in Brady

I’ve been pretty MIA because I’m sick of bad personnel decisions by the organization. Hiring a guy that’s failed as a HC twice with better rosters after committing to a guy that failed with another roster might be the straw that breaks this camel’s back until they dump the entire front office.
hardly a failed coach--Experienced coach that has led its teams to the playoff on numerous occasions & a Super Bowl in his pocket.
If that's a failed coach-I'll take him

Really warming up to MM if we don't swing for the fences in Brady

It’s honestly uncanny just how identical these two guys are. Two different styles, two different personalities, virtually the exact same career arc.

MM even won the SB in the year immediately after we won ours.

...and that, my friend, is the main argument for McCarthy. The skins on the wall as a head man in the pros. One similar time in Saints history where that kind of hire was made was with Hank Stram. You could probably still find older Saints fans who'd be quick to say he didn't get enough of a chance to make a winner out of the Saints. Archie's injury that kept him out all of 1976 would be a case in point.

Hopefully he doesn't bring Zimmer. They were near the bottom of yards & points allowed this season. A bend AND break defense with a lot of talent on that roster.

If it's McCarthy, please don't bring Zimmer with you.
I hope he may bring Mike Pettine who was his defensive coordinator in Green Bay.

Currently he is linebackers coach and assistant head coach with the Vikings.

He was not succesful as a head coach but has worked in excellent defensive systems.

As an aside, if the Jets go ahead and hire Glenn and the Saints don't announce a new coach by the weekend, I think that's an indication that they're strongly in on Brady.

The Walrus ( Andy Reid) couldn’t win it forever in Philadelphia but now he can’t lose in KC. I’ll give MM a chance. Never hated him, he’s just not a big RaRa guy. But I’ll take calm and steady for some playoff games. Heck, after Brees it might be a while until we catch that lightning in a bottle again.

Well Cedrick Wilson already knows McCarthy so there’s that

Doubt it. Right now he’s being talked about as a potential head coach in Dallas or OC for a defensive head coach. It sounds like Jerry wants to pick the coaching staff and he seems to be a part of it.
He's being interviewed, not hired; teams are interviewing coordinators all over. It does not mean they are HC candidates; do you think Rizzi is actually going to get an HC job?

Rizzi isn’t the betting favorite here. Shottenheimer is in Dallas as of Saturday.

Yes, he’s failed twice. He’s been fired and not renewed from two jobs with significantly better rosters than what the Saints are working with right now.

If you are an accountant and get fired after 5 years, you don’t get to be like, “well 4 years ago I had a pretty decent year!”. You were bad enough that they didn’t want you anymore - that is failing the job.

Also, 1 Super Bowl with Rodgers and that cast is not a flex, it’d be humiliating if prime Rodgers (maybe the most talented QB ever) didn’t get you 1, especially when you consider the skill players and defensive talent he inherited in GB. Just like he inherited a great roster from Jason Garrett, who was massively underperforming.

Now you want him to inherit the worst roster he’s ever inherited, after he’s slowly but surely plummeted every team he has coached - but no, he’s going to come to NO and magically overcome all of that.

Be realistic.
Comparing being an accountant to being a HC of an NFL team is just ridiculous. They are not in the same universe. McCarthy walked away from the table Jones wanted him back so failed is the wrong word

Again with that logic seeing the whole picture thing!!! C'mon brother get with the SR program , don't you know we have NO talent , NO cap and NO assets
