If hired, who’d be Mike McCarthy’s OC hire? (20 Viewers)

It wouldnt really matter who that dude would bring in as the OC, because Mccarthy would most likely call the plays. The hire would have the OC title, but not the actual OC duties. Just like Wood being our “DC” when DA was calling the actual plays.

On that note, i hope it’s NOT Mccarthy. That dude was on teams w/talent across the board, especially at QB. He had AR12, then Dak. Hate on Dak, but that dude is multiple levels better than the guys we have at QB. McCarthy has never really evolved on O & seems to be the same coach he was in the mid 2000s. This fact has always been masked by the talent of his QBs. I hope the HC hire is someone w/modern day takes on football.
Only skill talent Dallas had was Dak and Lamb under McCarthy. Cooks is way past his prime. Elliott and Pollard looked better than they were because of the OL.

McCarthy doesn’t get enough credit for maximizing mostly average talent into top offenses. The lack of receiving playmakers at RB and WR showed a lot in the playoffs once teams took away Lamb.

Dallas’ talent was largely overrated because of the Jerry Jones media hype. No other coach was getting 12 wins for multiple seasons out of those teams.

I’d like to have Jake Ferguson

Out of the candidates available I’m actually happy if Mike gets the gig, however I do get the concern you have. Valid imo.

These concerns are in fact NOT valid…

2021: Led NFL in PPG and YPG
2022: 4th in NFL in PPG and 10th in YPG
2023: Led NFL in PPG and 5th in YPG

Appears maybe he was wrong, my fears have been somewhat assuaged lol. I hadn’t looked it up. Perhaps the game hasn’t passed Mike by after all.

With all the talk I see about modern offenses, I think it’s too easy for fans to get enamored with the flavor of the day. Last year the Dolphins offense was the future of the NFL, a year later pocket passers like Tua are dinosaurs and the only way to win is with a mobile QB. Meanwhile, the Cowboys posted excellent numbers year after year in an offense that allegedly can’t beat modern defenses.

If you combine those three years, the Cowboys were 1st in total points and 3rd in total yards. They also had the 6th highest red zone TD percentage over the span.

No doubt that if Mike had led them to any playoff success he’d not be on the market. I think he’d be a great hire.

He shouldn’t even be on the market now. Dallas wanted to keep him and just couldn’t come to terms on the contract. It’s become clear they didn’t have a plan to replace him. Everyone over there is freaking out with Brian Shottenheimer popping up as the betting favorite today after being +7000 a week ago.

McCarthy would be a great hire.

Josh mccown

He’s a serious HC candidate with the Jets. He’d be a good OC if you can get him. Dont know if he’d want to take an OC job where he isn’t calling plays when he’s getting HC interviews in his current job.

I’ve been pretty MIA because I’m sick of bad personnel decisions by the organization. Hiring a guy that’s failed as a HC twice with better rosters after committing to a guy that failed with another roster might be the straw that breaks this camel’s back until they dump the entire front office.

Again with the logic and facts, don't you know we have to hire the young OC with 3yrs experience who made Allen all that he is. LOL

OC's do more than just call plays, though?

He’s a failed coach twice? He won a Super Bowl in Green Bay. Three 12 win seasons in the past 4 years in Dallas. 9-5 record with the backup QB. I think we were 0-7 this year. People were drooling over Vrabel’s 54-45 (54.6%) record with the Titans. McCarthy was 49-34 (58.3%) in Dallas. He’s the best coach available.
