If Kirk Cousins chooses not to resign with the Redskins after the 2017 season, which one of these teams will try to sign him? (1 Viewer)

If Drew Brees doesn't have a restructure moment like he did last year.

We will be the ones trying to get Kirk. Trust me... Sean Payton would turn him into a monster.

I'd like to see us throw our name in the hat. Love Drew obviously, but I think Cousins would thrive under Payton and be our QB for the next decade-plus.

A very interesting off-season coming up here with Drew set to become a free agent and only having a couple of seasons after this one left in him more than likely.

Loomis would have to get pretty creative to land Cousins next year considering, if Drew leaves, we are saddled with 18 mill in dead money. If OTC's estimates are close, it would leave us with only 16.2 mill in cap space to work with.

I have to think that Loomis and Brees have an understanding of how everything will go. Both sides wouldn't be comfortable going into all of this so open ended I'd think.

Kirk Cousins with the right OC , could put up big numbers, well he already does

If he don't get hurt he resign with Redskins. He should have signed the deal to be payed second highest paid QB. What more do he want. He better hope he stay healthy. Its a long season. If he gets hurt nobody not gone sign him. Good luck Captain Kirk.

It's not that simple - the deal the Redskins offered had four unguaranteed years on the back end. Yes, big money up front but then he's at their option for the next four with no guarantees. These days, I don't think many top line players are gonna agree to that structure.

Why haven't the Browns just trade the Houston first and Kizer to get captain Kirk already?:idunno:

It would have to be a sign and trade (they wouldn't give a first to get a guy that isn't signed). And that ship sailed today.

That is exactly right, it is roughly a 2 year deal (guarantee) for about the same, maybe even less than he would make with the franchise tag. This is a classic case of the bumbling Redskins front office attempting a CYA move so obvious that it is kind of sad.

I'm convinced that the reason they fired McGloughin is he tried to get them to sign Cousins long term last year and Bruce Allen got butt hurt....guy was the best personnel guy they have had since Bobby Beathard, the only real one since Danny has owned the team. then they had their schill Chris Cooley spew about how they fired him due to his drinking...what a hot mess that team is....

Jags could let Bortles go and get Cousins next year...Jags could be dangerous next year if that happen with that defense and Fournette running the ball

Id love to have KC here. Or the Texans, if that doesn't work out (My adopted AFC team).

Decade-plus? He's turning 29 next month. I think that's over-shooting a bit.

And Brees is 38. He's been in NFL since 2012, when he was 24. My guess is he was a fifth year senior or something or failed a grade in high school.

Btw, Kirk is not signing to be a backup. So Brees would have to have moved on for that to happen.

I think the chance of Brees leaving for a run with another team is probably very close to zero. From what I've heard in his interviews, he's taking it year by year. He'll do a self check before beginning another season. When he feels like he can't keep the commitment, he'll retire. I don't think he wants to move his family. I understand that. I've been offered twice what I make now, but I'm not moving my family, and I'm not leaving them behind for long periods of time. I think Drew gets to call that shot. I don't believe our organization would be willing to move him against his will, and I seriously doubt that he's going to ask to be traded or make us out-bid anybody. I imagine it's going to be one year deals for him the rest of the way... with the Saints.

Take your black and gold glasses off and be realistic.

1. If the Saints don't make the playoffs Payton is fired--Why would Brees stay
2. Brees doesn't have to ask to be traded he will be a FA and the Saints won't tag him.
2. Why would the Saints pay Brees $20 Million on a sinking ship?
3. Why wouldn't Brees go to another team where he has a chance to win a Superbowl immediately?

1. Payton just signed a large extension. He gets paid either way. No way they pay him and another coach big money.

2. This is true.

3. He has been on a "sinking ship" the past few years and he has gotten paid. I can't see any reason they won't pay him.

4. Brees has said he wants to finish out his career here. I take the man for his word. I think he will retire instead of going somewhere else.

If we go 7-9 again I believe he will leave, and I wouldn't blame him in the least. He's too competitive. He's done his part. He'll go to Denver and be a contender.
