If Rizz works out, this is really bad for Loomis (12 Viewers)

Rizzi winning only hurts our draft order and not Loomis.
Not a popular sentiment, but I'm with ya. I don't think ML is gonna be hurt by anything that transpires this season, and the only thing winning games does now is hurt our draft pick for the new coach next year. This season is OVER....I hope they decide to punt and play the field position game to wrap up this disaster of a year. Position the team for the new coach to infuse some talent.

If your HC is undeserving of players' respect...you need to find another one
lots of things and ideas and sentiments can have truth. I am not letting the lockerroom or players completely off the hook for making dennis allen their scape goat for their effort, commitment, their ability to stay healthy and execution at times on the football team. NFL is a business and these players have grown up responsibilities too.

You don’t allow your players to lose for the rest of the season bc you want to show a coach respect. If ML was allowing DA to coach the remainder of the season, then it would’ve been for draft position (which would be secretly tanking) or bc he didn’t want to be wrong about him. Which would still be foolish and egotistical. As a GM, you have a job to do. Friends or no friends, you do what is best for the team, not one person

I think he was wrong but I think Loomis didn't want to fire DA mid-season for a couple reasons. First, I think he thought if we got more healthy DA had a chance to turn it around Loomis wanted to give him a chance to do that. Second, I think Loomis thinks that good organizations don't fire their head coach mid-season and that if you gain the reputation for doing that, good head coaches will be less likely to want to work for your organization.

I think he was completely wrong on the first one. Injuries are a problem, but DA has shown for over 2 years that he is not the right guy and it was clear before and even more clear now that the team had given up on him and tuned him out. That wasn't going to change with more healthy players. And frankly he should have been let go after the first season or at least after last year.

As far as not wanting a reputation for firing guys mid-season, I think he has a point with that and that it is not a good idea to get that reputation. But, I think he was wrong not to want to fire DA mid-season because we don't have that reputation and one firing after a 7 game losing streak and two years of mediocrity is justifiable and no coach would likely have an issue with a coach being fired under those circumstances. You don't want to make a habit of it, but you can occasionally do it when the situation warrants it and this was one of those times.

Problem is that losing, like winning, can become a habit. You don't want your team to make losing a habit and if you correct all the things that lead to losing, then you are going to win. And those things needed to be corrected before they became a habit for the team.

Plus, there was no point in firing DA if you are just going to try to lose out. I'm confident DA could have found a way to lose the rest of the games, but I don't think Rizzi has that in him.

They needed to remind these guys that they are just as close to being the team they were the first two weeks and they were to being the team they were during th 7 game losing streak. Plus, no players like losing and if you lose out, you aren't going to be able to retain some of the good players you do have and other players won't want to play here.

Finally, a not small part of this is the more games this team shows they can win, the more attractive they become to potential head coach candidates.

Injuries are an excuse. Every single team in the NFL has had major injuries so far. No team is hollering about an injury excuse. You go out there and play to win. Next man up, is a mantra for a reason. DA was a major cancer to our team. The league knew it, the players knew it, the media knew it, and our fans should have known it. Absolutely zero reason to keep the cancer on for the remainder of the season, unless you are tanking. Too bad we don’t have a GM that has the bowls to do his dang job properly.

What’s with this notion that you only find good talent by draft position? There are many talented players, who can become superstars, stars, good players, or contributors all throughout the draft. Do you know how much talent we missed out on drafting based on need? No one will convince me that almost the entire 2nd rd of the 2020 NFL draft, wasn’t more talented than a player like Ruiz. Thats just one example. BPA

A lot of people forget/overlook the fact these players have friendships all over the league. They talk to each other all the time. The way the players talked to Benson to cause her to make a move, just imagine what their conversations with their friends around the league sounded like. The Saints without a doubt were rocketing down to radioactive territory before DA was fired.

I do think the Saints had an unusual number of injuries at key positions and positions where they could least afford an injury - particularly OL and WR. And they lost their starting QB and 3 of their top 4 CBs. I think that's an unusually severe injury problem.

That being said, that's why you have to close out the Philly game and the first Atlanta game. And, a good head coach figures out how to win those two and wins one of the next 4 and does not lose to Carolina even with those injuries. With good coaching this team should be 6-4 or 5-5 even with the injuries.

Which is why despite the injuries, it was clear that DA needed to go.

I appreciate Loomis and think he's a net positive at GM. I understand why he would publicly support the head coach. I understand why he would say positive things about him after they fire him. If Rizzi succeeds, it's still a win for Loomis because he hired Rizzi and placed him in the Assistant HC role.

Huh, playing hypothetical, didn’t Rizzi interview for the job 3 years ago?!?! If Rizzi is retained as HC and does well, doesn’t that mean ML failed to see the “Chuck Knoll” in Rizzi, yet failed to see the “John McKay” in DA? He had proof for one of them going back to his tenure with the Raiders😬
