Im So Upset With Day 2 Draft Strategy (1 Viewer)

I love how everyone will bash someone's opinion on the draft when it isn't seen through black and gold glasses.

I love how the negative people whine about getting bashed by the positive people then turn around and bash the positive people for being optimistic.

Read the actual words that the OP posted. It is not a real opinion about the draft. Instead what we see here is more of a pronouncement about how much smarter the OP is than everyone else, especially and particularly the Saints FO. Not opinion. A diatribe.

Most people here are fans that actually enjoy the Saints. Not perpetually negative posters that are more interested in implying how much more they know than the professionals. But everyone knows that their actual limited knowledge comes from highlights and the speculation of others, not personal knowledge or the watching of coaching film (NOT highlights) or in-depth weeks and weeks of pre-draft prep.

Me? I'd rather be positive about the draft until shown otherwise. I certainly don't know more than the pros (pros, per my way of thinking does not include the poorly prepared talking heads and pundits). Being a fan of the Saints is about having fun and not trying to be a know-it-all that likes to put down those who enjoy the draft process.

These overly negative posts from a subset of posters here is getting tired and old. Nothing wrong with a disagreement with the Saints. They do a lot that I don't agree with, but I'm not so arrogant as to think that I know more than they do and am willing to let things play out rather than stand on a soapbox and proclaim to the world how much smarter than my follow members of SR I am.

Every year this OP (and at least one other) tend to post a "Saints just won't listen to me" diatribe. Expected and not appreciated by many.

Hallelujah!!! Some one nails it..:potd:

There are so many draft threads here that it makes my head spin, but I've seen the same complaints throughout about the Saints moving up to get players this draft when they needed so many more players. My gut reaction was to get upset about it too. But the thing is, if they got quality over quantity, it doesn't matter. This draft wasn't that deep beyond the DT position. So instead of padding the roster with extra "just in case they don't work out" picks, the team got players it genuinely covets. I can't fault them for that. And about the picks the team lost for next year's draft ... there's plenty of time between now and then to pick up more picks. Let's see how this goes.

Guess what else takes "hubris"?

Taking over the post-Katrina Saints in 2006 as a rookie coach and winning the Super Bowl four seasons later.

Hubris? I'd say opening the second half of said Super Bowl with an on-side kick pretty much defines the word.

All that being said, I think given this post was made before the draft was complete, we see that the FO knew what they were doing.

We ended up getting several players in UDFA (especially Guards) that may compete for playing time, even a starting job, and were projected to get drafted anywhere after the 4th round.

Frankly, that is like having several extra lower-round picks already. Some of our favorite recent Saints have come this way - PT23, Lance Moore, Willie Snead, I'm certain I'm forgetting several. So our prowess in identifying and signing quality UDFA certainly makes up for giving up a few low-round picks from time to time in order to move up and snap guys we have identified as possibly difference-makers.

This is how I feel. While I'm bummed we didn't get a guard with the potential to come in and start on day one, I love the first 3 picks, and the DT from Canada could be a real diamond in the rough. Until and unless he turns out to be a bust, I'm going to keep that diamond in my mind. And, who knows, maybe that RB in the 7th will end up being more than just a ST contributor. Even if he can do only that, he will end up being a value pick. Also, maybe one of those FA rookie O linemen will prove to be better than some of the guards drafted. But that's what makes this whole thing fun to watch. :barman:

Kelemente, Lelito, Galette, Snead, Moore, PT, Coleman, Richardson, Edebali, who was the center a couple years ago that went to Chicago, Ivory, Robinson, Cadet,

I agree with OP. The Saints are on track to be a beast of a team in 2017/2018. I think they envision Wilkerson hitting free agency next year. Highly doubt the Jets can afford to tag him again or that they agree to a long term deal. Add in another draft class and I think that team does very well.
