In defense of Allen (gulp) (1 Viewer)

I was in the camp of getting an offensive minded coach. The defensive coach's were not winning super bowls. Good QBs and over achieving slot receivers were. Rams, TB come to mind. We missed the boat on that, when we let Pederson go to the Jags, while Loomis did his exhaustive search, to settle on Allan. DA wasn't my first, 2nd, or 3rd choice. But, can't say the man doesn't deserve a 2nd yr. Firing a coach in his first year, isn't what well run franchises do. So, we are stuck for now.

Loomis is clearly not a complete GM, he was only buoyed by Sean and Ireland. I have seen Payton and Loomis Drafts. They sucked!!! My biggest fear is w/ Sean gone, Ireland will be out the door soon. And so goes the other half of our draft room talent.

I don't know how this season will turn out, but rebuilding this team next year may not be a bad idea for the future. And get out of the shadow of Sean/Drew and our cap. Kind of like what Pittsburgh is doing w/ Big Ben, and what is likely going to do w/ Tomlin. You keep the winning philosophy, but you have to change with the game.

For Allan to make a believer out of me, he would have to make this defense elite top 10. As ugly as it looks, we are a top 6th offense right now. We score enough points to win w/ an elite defense. The margin we have to flip is small less than a touchdown. But, we have to learn how to win close games again.

My gripe with Allen is his history with Oakland and I fear he doesn't know where to turn to for input outside of the guys in the building. Is he willing to bring in new offensive guys next year? I just think all he knows is the status quo and I don't see one more year changing that. How many coaches turn it around after a bad first year, especially without stability at the QB position? McVay took over a struggling Rams team and hit the ground running, Daboll has the giants playing their best football since the early day of Coughlin, and McDaniel has fins firing on all cylinders before Tua went down. It seems like the good coaches get it right in the beginning.

I'm still rockin' w/ DA. It's a slow rock but I'm still rockin' w/ him. I don't blame him for all the team's issues right now. It's been alot of mistakes on the players too not just DA. We fix the mistakes, we're good.

I don’t think that firing Allen will matter honestly. We have a mediocre team. We have a bunch of guys who are on the decline right now…especially on our front seven of our defense. And we don’t have a QB. We have a bunch of replacement level guys. Guys like Winston…who nobody was interested in signing as a starter except us…and Dalton…who is a backup QB. It is exceptionally difficult to have sustained success in the NFL with our current level of talent at QB. Literally everything else has to fall into place. This team isn’t good enough to overcome a mediocre QB situation.

I’m honestly tired of hearing about “self-inflicted wounds” and “refs” as reasons for loses. Those are excuses that losers make. We are lucky to have 2 wins right now…it could easily be worse.
Agreed. And it’s going to get worse.

That's such worn out and lazy thing to say. The Raiders were a total dumpster fire at the time. So Allen didn't go in as a first time head coach and totally rebuild it into a power house in two seasons. That obviously means that there's absolutely no possibility of him ever being a decent coach. Nobody has ever succeeded at a second chance. Ever!

It's just a tired old trope.

Just checking in a month later at 3-7. You still holding out hope, or no?

Tired old trope, seems like it is just a regular trope now.

So do you think Sean Mcvay should be fired. He really hasn't had very many injured ,same roster he won SB with last year, same QB, same dominant WR, Same defensive players and yet same record as we have. Should he be fired? If not, why not?
He lost an offensive assistant to Vikings now their OC. other than that, everything is the same. Now compare to us, we have had more injured players than healthy players at times,

I hate the Rams and McVay with a fiery passion but above is absolutely not true….everything is not the same….Whitworth (the dbaggy LT) who was probably their best olineman retired and they have had a slew of injuries on the oline….they appear to still be playing hard….bad years after SBs are not uncommon…..

McVay won a Superbowl last year, all DA does is lose. Are you serious?

Whitworth was not as good as Armstead, who we lost this year, We have been competitive in every game, fighting until the end. And bad years for first year head coaches with injuries to 3 olineman, 2 db, 2 dl, WRs, RBs is not uncommon either. If we do not have the injuries, we would have 1-2 losses at most.
I am not as high on DA as I was in the beginning so this reply does not come without hesitation. This year is a loss, Probably next year is lost also due to cap issues and having sold out with Drew still under center. We will not be super competitive until we get out of this mess.

I’ll make it simple, “It’ll all starts and ends with the HC”. He is ultimately responsible for the entire operations.

SP had 7-9 seasons with one of the greatest QBs off all time.

Let’s give DA a bit of slack here..

OP is right. We don’t have a QB, missing star players..
This is not the same. The Saints were still incredibly fun to watch despite losing records those years. What you're seeing now is a guy who was not the right fit for a HC position. I wish him well.

I agree Armstead is the better player (he was one of my all time favorite Saints) when available….Whitworth was more durable and available….

If you think we have been competitive in every game, fighting until the end then you are either blind or a relative of Dennis Allen…..

At this point it looks pretty hopeless. I was hoping we'd see gradual improvements and maybe even begin to look like a well led team trending up.
It just keeps getting worse. Especially the Defense.

I still think firing Allen before the end of the season would just make things worse.
Once the season is over I'm hoping they take another look at Brian Flores.

Yeah, I think if Gayle and Loomis decide cutting bait after 1 season is the way to go, then I'm all for it. I just hope they're working on a plan now for what happens after the season.

Turnovers, penalties and missed tackles all happen because of poor coaching.
We are losing the games during the week not on Sundays.
Coaching, across the board, is as bad as it's been since Dikta.
