Interesting nugget regarding this year’s draft (50 Viewers)

I remember a time, when this board LOVED NFL bloodlines. People couldn’t wait to pick the names of the past NFL player’s sons in their mock draft. Here we have a guy, who is a QB of a past NFL superstar legend, yet he gets passed over like he’s a two day old bagel. Not saying that I would select Shauder, I’m just pointing that out. So, im going to need some of yall to tell me why that is a quick hard no for Shaduer. Personally, there are some things that I do not like about him (not football related), but there are some things that I do like (football related).

I would like to see the Saints consider, Grey Zabel out of North Dakota State U, in the second round. He played tackle in college but could slide to the guard position like Cody Mauck did with Tampa Bay. NDSU out of Fargo has a really solid program and their O lineman are well coached. Zebel would be my hidden gem of the draft.
He has a lot of upside, most scouting reports I read said that he'll be a better guard than tackle, due to his "short" arm length. He's highly technical though and versatile enough to start inside and be good depth for outside too. He also might not make it to our second, I've seen mocks where he goes as early as 25 to the Texans. If we added an offensive weapon at 9, and then Zabel at 40, I'm all smiles!

They still do, many on this board want to draft LSU's TE Mason Taylor, son of star EDGE Jason Taylor for Miami. Some have even quoted "NFL genes".

The problem with Sanders, is first off there's a lot of controversy. Colorado as a team should've never ended the season ranked after losing to KState, KU and Nebraska. KU and Nebraska and are bit of jokes as far as college teams go. KState is slightly better but still not good enough to rival a top 25 college football team.

Then there's his performance. He comes out 1 game looking good then tanks against a team like Nebraska. Make no mistake, Sanders was the major reason they lost that game. To top that off, they're strength of schedule was bad. An NFL caliber QB should've had a very consistent hay day with that schedule. Instead, he didn't shine enough over Dart, Howard and even Beck (was not good this year after losing Bowers), all 3 who constantly faced top defenses in the country.

Given the rankings, it appears there was some level of favoritism with Colorado. The media also hyped em up and kept them in the spotlight mostly because everyone loves the controversy that surrounds PrimeTime Sanders. It's possible (we absolutely cannot rule it out) that mini Prime Time is also just being hyped up by the media. Theres been rumors that scouts and NFL teams don't even have a 1st round grade rating on him.

In fact, thats been a constant rumor for almost a month now. I just did a google and here's another article that was just posted an hour ago. But again, we have to consider draft talk and misdirection which occurs for many draft prospects. So it could also just simply be that.

I'm not a fan at all. But theres no denying Kellen Moore's offensive success with RB's and QB's. For that reason, if he likes Sanders and thinks Sanders will be his guy as a franchise QB, my opinion on him would change to the outcome of being cautiously optimistic. To simply put, I have much more confidence in Moore's opinion then my own, unlike Dennis Allen who I wondered if he just sat in his office eating his own boogers and drinking Latte's.

I think we need to move away from the small school players as their transitions take a little longer, we need to build this team up with players from major programs before we go searching for small school studs again.

In college football, a HC can’t really build his roster, the way they deem fit, until year 3, which is tough these days due to lack of attrition of the transfer portal. There’s almost no more developing, just more plug and play. Shaduer played two years at Buffalo. They made a huge jump from 2023 to 2024. How is he to blame for where his team was ranked? Did they get favoritism? Possibly. Bama lost to Vandy and Oklahoma. These things happen in college football. You mentioned Nebraska, but that was the 2nd game. He did pretty well the rest of the way. Better to have that bad game early on if you ask me

Gonna have to agree to disagree. Year 2 for Prime Time should've yielded better results then losing to KU, KState and Nebraska. Those 3 teams were so bad and to simply put, losing 1 of em it happens, but losing to all 3 should not. Not for a well coached team with a Heisman trophy winner at WR/CB and a supposedly top 10 NFL draft pick at QB. Not to mention, their TE is pretty good too (Miller).

To top that off, Sanders was also a big reason they lost to KU. The stats show something utterly different, that Sanders played great. The truth is in the 2nd half KU threw all their resources to take Hunter and Miller out of the game, and Sanders began to look utterly lost and couldn't get it done offensively at all so KU just walked away. Perhaps you can put that on coaching? I think there's a very valid debate to be had there.

I understand your concern, however, NDSU currently has 12 players in the NFL. This is not your typical small school. They played the Colorado Buffaloes this year and lost in the 4th quarter, 26-31. There is good tape of Zabel when his team won the Division 1 Championship this year. Also, Mauck didn't need much development when Tampa signed him. He started day one of his rookie season and has been a starter since. Zabel is projected in the second round and not a reach. Major program players can also take longer to development. Let's circle back on Zebel next year at this time and compare notes.

Given the lack of first round talent and high lack of top 10 talent, this is going to be a very interesting draft. It's possible we see a record setting low of first round trades. Given the absurd high amount of 2nd round talent that starts around mid first round and rumored to extend all the way past the 2nd round into 3rd round, I wonder if we'll being to see a lot of trades occur on Day 2.

No ones going to like to hear this, but if I were the Saints, and you don't have a top 10 grade on anyone on the board @9, and its also true that the 2nd round talent begins around @1.12, I would attempt to try and trade away the 1.9 for a first round pick the following year that seemingly has a higher quality pool of talent as well as a 2nd in this draft.

That would give us two 2nd round picks that are picking the same quality of talent from 1.13 on back, as well as two true high quality first round talents next year. Less exciting now, but in the long run it would be highway robbery.
Patriots strategy there. Like it.

Notre Dame, who was in the championship game, lost to Northern Illinois. Kansas, KState, and Nebraska are all “better” Northern Illinois, yet they beat the impending National Championship runner up. These things happen. What is the point you are trying to make here? If every team that has the best odds to win a game, wins all of them, then you have a point. That doesn’t happen. So, what are you trying to say? That Buffalo should’ve won every game? Bc if that’s the point you are going for, then I can reel off 10 team that should’ve ran the table

I'm sure he is a good player.
