Is the DNA of the team now DA (1 Viewer)

It’s not a defense of mediocrity, but when all conversations are perceived as arguments, I can understand how you’d get there.

Defending mediocrity would require me to say that I like being in this position more than all other possibilities, which is pretty clearly not what I’ve said anywhere in the reply I wrote. What I did is called acknowledging reality and maintaining perspective that good things cannot last forever (reality) and, given the rest of the available options now that sustained greatness is off the table, I’d rather the team be mediocre and in position to win the mediocre division and get into the playoffs, a possibility heading into week 18 each of the past two seasons, than incapable of scoring or stopping anyone and reading draft profiles before Thanksgiving because the team is unwatchable (maintaining perspective).

Maybe you’d rather blow it all up and sit through some 4-win seasons. I just took a look around the Patsfans message board and let me tell you, those fans really don’t seem to be having a good time right now, and they’re coming down from a six Super Bowl win era. This fanbase, not having climbed quite as high and also not fallen anywhere near as far, is both acting like it’s much worse right now and are encouraging each other that we as a fanbase are in the pit of despair. That’s just not reality.

When someone's defense of keeping DA around is "well at least we aren't 4-13 or something and a laughing stock" I'm failing to grasp how that isn't an argument for keeping him around....because it is and it's beyond weak....

I don't care about the Pats or any other teams fans and I never once mentioned "blowing it up" or any other such nonsense...

I just want the Saints back in the playoffs and relevant again and not to repeat the mistakes made in the past....lets see what happens this season....

Because I don’t believe in blowing it all up just to do it, and the team has been on the brink of postseason play the past two seasons. If I didn’t like the players we currently cheer for I’d be more inclined to tear it all down, but I do and I enjoy cheering for them so I’m going to be in favor of the scenario that allows me to continue to cheer for them as members of this team. It helps that they’re pretty good and have just been a bad break or two away from seeing the playoffs. Do you like the players on the team or no?

Well that’s the other option available. They can keep these core players and be pretty good, or they can get rid of them all and stink. That’s the financial reality - this isn’t the ‘06 Saints or even the ‘00 Saints who had a ton of cap space to make all kinds of transactions. The team would be unable to really afford anyone substantive.

They’ve been close. I can’t stress that enough. It’s not like they’ve been hopelessly far away from making the postseason. Let’s see what this season holds. I think they’ve got what it takes to have the breaks go their way en route to a postseason bid. That’s not doe-eyed optimism for its own sake but belief in the changes they’ve made to benefit the pretty good core roster they have.

Right now, I'm committed to fostering a more balanced atmosphere. Too much negativity is not conducive to an atmosphere enjoyable to our target audience, so I'm encouraging members with histories of being persistently negative to be more reasonable and balanced.

It’s a discussion board, Andrus. What’s the point of not discussing my opinion? Sadly, at the moment it’s not positive. Should I refrain from posting on SSR?

Why not discuss my argument instead: that this is the type of excuses we were giving DA last year?

Not to speak for Andrus, but your opinion has become a boring refrain and it's as if you keep repeating yourself over and over and over again just to hear yourself type.

The only thing I have any recollection of in any of your posts is this repeated negativity.

Maybe you could just start using a whining emoji or something and save yourself and the rest of us the trouble of reading the same tired negativity ad nauseum.

I guess you missed the part where I stated in an earlier response that the roster is the least of our problems. I think last year, with that schedule and division, they were capable of 10-12 wins....

I'm not sure why you keep bringing this up, maybe you are confusing me with another poster? I never once mentioned "blowing things up" personnel wise. Again, while the roster had weaknesses (specifically oline and TE) I think they were more than capable of getting to the playoffs....

Close doesn't cut it, especially given the circumstances last year, there are no more excuses....and if they shore up the offensive line situation a bit there is no reason this team shouldn't win the division. We will see what happens....

People do be conflating fiscal responsibility with blowing it up, cause... "it wasn't a problem until it was a problem"
