Israel (now broader Mid East discussion) (6 Viewers)

An interesting thing that I heard this morning while listening to a Harvard lecturer (who was being interviewed on Bloomberg) was, who is the United States to make recommendations, or dictate policy to Palestine or anyone? Seeing what is happening right now in Washington, how can we expect anyone to take us seriously.

I laughed about “who is this guy?” But then the more I thought about it I could see his point.

Congress isnt making recommendations on policy - Biden is. ( and his administration )

As dysfunctional as our government is at the moment, it is still operating within the basic set of rules laid down in the late 18th century. There is a reason so many foreigners park their spare billions in US real estate and other holdings.

Now, you did say he was from Harvard, where a large portion of the student body and faculty support Hamas' attack on Israeli citizens, so, we certainly have room for improvement.

Peace and cooperation among neighbors. Sharing resources as needed rather than killing.

I know that's not possible, but it is WJWD.
Sure, a lot of people want that. The problem is there won't ever be peace without justice, and both views of justice can't be resolved. Neither side recognizes the legitimacy of the other, so here we are.

I wouldn't say they support Hamas' attack on Israel. They do support Palestinians, which isn't the same thing.

Yeah, no. "We the undersigned student organizations hold the Israeli regime responsible for all unfolding violence... the apartheid regime is the only one to blame." - signed by 30 student groups and posted on the day of the attacks, in real time.

If the argument is that they did not use the words "We support Hamas", ok, but, gimme a break. Blaming Israel for the Hamas attacks.... this isn't hard.

If I mistreat my dog until it bites me, who's fault is it?

Can you link the source for this? Not doubting you, just want to reference it.

I asked whether they understood why so many people had been shocked and hurt by the letter’s failure to express any sympathy for the Israeli men, women, and children who had been murdered barely a day before its release. But they stubbornly resisted this line of thinking. “Our statement was not intended to do that,” Nadia said, but, rather, to address the politics of the region and “the root of the violence.” Anyone who was scandalized by the idea of Israel’s culpability struck her as “deeply misinformed.”
