N/S It looks like we traded Lattimore at the right time (Lattimore Out back to back weeks in Washington) (20 Viewers)

The best play I've ever seen a Saints Cb make didn't show up in the stats. It was Jabari Greer in the 2009 NFCCG.
It occured on Tracy Porters Int. Favre rolled out,and Greer positioned himself between Favre and Wr. Percy Harvin.
If he bit on Harvin,Favre runs for a first down. If he bit on Farve it's an easy pass to Harvin down the sideline.
Greer stood perfectly still and forced Favre to throw an ill advised pass over the middle.
It's indeed the little things that win big games. That's just another example of the kinds of breaks you need to win a ring! (y)

I’ve always been puzzled by the notion of “winning” a trade. The idea is that both teams have the option of improving as a result.

The Commanders are almost certainly going to be playing meaningful football in January. So they need someone who can bolster the team as the season grinds to the playoffs. Lattimore should provide them a shut down corner once healthy - which will likely be in the next few weeks - if the Commanders take it slow.

The Saints won’t even have the opportunity to capitalize on the trade assets until April of next year. I think by the time April rolls around we’ll have a pretty clear notion as to how well Latt worked out for the Commanders.

Latt was expensive and plays a position the Saints have spent the past few years drafting potential replacements. So he was a value we needed to convert into draft picks.

There’s no winning and losing at this point. It’s just needs and values and right now we don’t know who got the most value.

Well, I guess Lattimore wasn't faking or exaggerating the hamstring issue. This does not bode well for the Commanders considering all the time he has missed with the Saints.
I think we're just looking for ways to declare the trade a success. They aren't losing because they don't have access to him, he's a lagniappe piece so they'll be very patient. When he gets on the field he'll make a difference but they aren't missing anything w/out him.

Fans are just fanning.

PSA - Commanders fans don't necessarily represent the viewpoint of the Commanders.

If I'm the team, I'm thinking we're half a game behind the Eagles right now, but also only half a game off being the number 1 wild card.

I know the player has a recurring hamstring issue and I'll keep playing the lineup that's got me to 7-3 for now, to and look forward to him improving my defense, hopefully in the playoffs when it really matters.

[Edit: I see HouseCall and Elias already got this covered]

P.S. Looking at the standings, is it wild that the Bills have a 4.5-game lead in their division? After only 10 games? That's Brady-era stuff

Yup, he was IMO, until Latt, the best CB that ever played for the Saints, and had his career not been shortened by injury he may have retained that title.....he was a great, great player.....

I'm not really looking to call the trade a success. I don't think we really had much choice but to trade Lattimore now and we could only get what was on offer. So winning or losing the trade doesn't really matter. I was mostly just pointing out that many thought that Lattimore did not want to play for DA and that is why his injury lingered last year and that is why he suddenly got a hamstring injury when the losing streak got really bad. But, the fact that he is now out for two weeks seems to suggest that at least this one was a legit injury and had nothing to do with whether he wanted to play for DA or not.

And while I get what you are saying about Washington, if they are without him then they are missing the guys that they would have gotten with those picks. They are also missing the guys they could have signed with the cap space that Lattimore will eat.

Anway, I'm not saying we "won" the trade, but if Lattimore continues to have hamstring issues and other injuries that keep him out of a lot of games, that's certainly not what Washington thought they were paying for and they likely would have tried to pay less if that is the outcome. But, maybe this is short term and he comes back and continues to be the shutdown CB that he can be.

And an example of smart players. I remember hearing Tracy Porter break down the Colts play that led to his pick 6. He knew right where the receiver was going, who had cover behind him and the route the receiver would run all based on the offensive set. It was a very impressive analysis by Porter

And his battles with Mike Evans were epic. They hated each other :)

Buddy of mine is a lifelong Skins season ticket holder. Back to the Joe Gibbs days. He immediately asked me about Lattimore. I said he is a shutdown corner that is going to miss 1 out of 3 games with hamstring issues

Lattimore was projected to go third overall by a lot of people in 2017. Him falling to 9 means Lattimore as the best corner back in team history should not be a surprise.
I still cannot help but think if Lattimore had gone as projected or even if the Bills had wanted Lattimore they would not have traded out with the Chiefs and Mahomes likely would have been a Saint.

That right there’s some real alt-reality stuff. The path not tread…

Or if Payton wasn't telling anyone who'd listen how much he liked Mahomes.

That was a designed defensive play. G Williams had noticed that when Manning read a blitz from his right he would check out to a quick slant to Reggie Wayne on the left. Williams called for that blitz early in the game to test his theory but instructed Porter to lay back. Manning completed the pass for a 5-6 yard gain. That was a setup for later. When Williams saw the right time to call it again in the 4th Quarter he did but this time Porter had the signal to jump the route and one of the greatest plays in Saints history happened.
