I've been a Saints fan for 45 years....... (2 Viewers)

Been a fan since they were playing in Tulane Stadium and walked to the games with my father. Survived the 1-15 Aints season, and the years with Dick Nolan, Bum, Mora, Ditka, Hasslett, CSP, etc. However, this has to be the most disappointing team. We have been told there is alot of talent, but, for some reason, they can't put it together. Disappointed in the entire team who appear to have quit. That starts with the top and the HC. That's not fair to the fans.

At least we are not Dallas!

I’ve been a fan for 55 years (since the age of 5 is the earliest I can remember…..CSP finally showed Saints fans what a real contender looks like….he was far from perfect, but understood how to lead and that you had to take chances to win postseason games (Mora, sadly with some of the best D’s in history, did not)….so Saints fans know what a winner looks like….DA has been the exact opposite thus far, he’s clearly not a leader and time should be running out very quickly if we don’t see a fairly immediate turnaround…..unfortunately Loomis may be at least as large a problem…..

TBH I don't think that will do any good. I really think that as problems go Loomis and Ireland are bigger issues than DA. The team reflects the consistent draft and free agent misses of the last 5 years. Can't add 2 players per year from the draft, pay declining players big money, and expect to field a good team. 2021 draft 2 players, 2022 draft 3 players, 2023 2 players, 2024 2 players. No Pro Bowlers amongst all those picks. You can't build a roster like that.
This is why I’ve espoused trading down in the draft every single year. Accumulate more picks instead of trading up and losing picks. When you have a good roster and only need a player or two to supplement it, trading up might be the way to go but not in a total rebuild which is the phase are entering.

I agree that DA is not the answer, he's not a leader of men.

With that said, he hasn't forgotten how to coach defense. I think this loss has more to do with injuries and aging veterans.

But, I'll also say that I'm 62, and I've never seen a Saints defense quit like they did in the 2nd half of this game.

Let's hope they find an answer somewhere soon.

I must admit I liked the Jim Finks approach....Needed a starter at RB in 1986. Draft four! (We end up with Mayes, Hilliard, Word, Fenerty - every one a good player) Need DB depth in 1987 draft four!....(Adams, Mack, Atkins, Cook - 3 pretty good).
If Jim had Drew Brees, we'd have won a Superbowl or two in the late 80s/90s.

If the NFCS was around, I think the Saints would have made a run.
Most of the Mora Saints problems stem from being in the same division as the Walsh Niners.

Yup, I've been a Saints fan since 1986, and this just feels like one of those periods where a rebuild is imminent, but in the meantime we've likely got a couple more years of bottom-tier won-loss records.

The injuries this year have not helped.

Anyone else remember when Rick Venturi was DC, then interim HC?

In a word, yes. This is very reminiscent of the Jim Everett years. 7-9, 7-9 & 3-13. Saints fans were riding high on Jim Everett and Quinn Early and Michael Haynes and we were sure that the Saints were going to be a contender...........only to get beat in every facet of the game.

Sound familiar?

The parity in the NFL will never creat another scenario like the 1970s in terms of rock bottom, no real chance of competing for a playoff chance let alone SuperBowl.

But this is about as bad as I have seen it.

Dennis Allen is terrible head coach. The team is devoid of any real talent at key positions. The talent we do have is old and showing signs of it. The FO is lackluster and uninspiring. And the owner seems to be very hands off in terms of her involvement.

Maybe Rattler is something to build around. His performance yesterday was decent and I didn’t get the Ian Book vibes. But this team needs a complete tear down. Maybe Sean Payton will do us one more solid and lay a prime time whooping on us Thursday and Loomis comes out of hiding to fire DA going into the bye week.

I've experienced some highs and I've experienced a lot of lows with this team. I'm always cheering.

It has been a while since I've had no hope for this team and Dennis Allen is the main guy that's bringing that back. ☹️

Do any of the older Saints fans feel the same way?
At this time it looks bleak but the main thing is when are we going to move on from Allen. Second is rip the band aid off already and just do the rebuild they have wasted a lot of time and resources trying to hang on and it is not working.

If the cap allows it and even if you eat a contract or two clean it out. Jordan needs to find a new home or retire (hate that I even have to say it) and Davis is long in the tooth. I don't know the contracts and who is up and the cap but the idea is there trim every bit of fat and more and just start at ground zero.

I have been both of Ole Miss fan and a New Orleans Saints fan since 1969. I was very happy to see Archie Manning becoming a New Orleans Saint.

When Tom Benson purchased the Saints, I discovered just how bad John Meacham was as an owner. I discovered that the Saints would never get to a playoff game let alone Super Bowl while John Meacham was the owner.

When Tom Benson was the owner the Saints, had their first playoff game versus the Minnesota Vikings in 1987. They started winning playoff games. And in 2009, the Saints went to the Super Bowl and Won!

My feeling is that there will never be a return to the John Mitcham years where the owner was so bad no coach or administration would be able to put together a competitive team. (Look at Carolina, they now have their version of Mecham).

I feel disappointed. Part of me still feels like there is a curse against the Saints. But, I feel more reassured this losing condition is temporary. I felt like the Saints would never be a high caliber team, when John Meacham was the owner.

Eh. I think saying there is a curse is too much.
From the Benson era, there’s only been four or five truly lost seasons. Three Ditka years and Katrina.
The last one was nearly two decades ago.

Every franchise has a season like this. Or a bad hire.

Robert Salah had DA vibes and got canned. Players said it was always the same message, no jolt when they needed something. That's DA.

Rizzi shows intensity, give DA the boot and let Rizzi be the interim HC since he's already the Assistant HC. KK can concentrate on the offense, interview both after the season.

Been a Saints fan since I was old enough to watch football. I was born in 1974. This team is nowhere near as bad as the Ditka era with the Billy Joe's at quarterback. It was hard to watch those teams they were so awful. This team at least is somewhat entertaining to watch. And I have some degree of expectations to win just about every game that I never had with Ditka.

But it is feeling more like the gem Haslet era. Where you're doing good but never better than 500. I'm just kind of stuck in an apathetic place right now.

I know I said I have been watching since I was old enough to watch football but I must say I don't remember the Bum or Hank Strram years. My first memories are of the Mora years and like this team they were entertaining. But unlike this team, they fought every game and you knew you were getting 100% from them every game. This team is not that. I guess that's what you get with a marine as a head coach and players like Sam Mills and Ricky Jackson wouldn't let the players quit.

I think my apathy will be here until Dennis Allen is gone because as long as he is the head coach I have no hope for this team being more than a 500 team.
