Jacksonville defense struggling mightily this season (1 Viewer)

Well the people who bet on games seem to like the Jacksonville (-1) so according to them Jacksonville should watch out for a trap game.
The home team gets spotted -3 as a general rule of thumb so them only being -1 means that there is still money on the Saints. We'll see how the line moves throughout the week.

The Jags D is horrible in run defense. They are 32 in ypc at about 5.5 ypc. The Bucs run D is the best in ypc at 3.1 ypc. That's a big deal IMO.

You’re right. But the Saints have NOT been a good running team this year. They have been well below average outside of week 1...so realistically it’s a pretty bad run game versus a pretty bad run defense. Just because the Panthers were able to take advantage of it doesn’t mean that the Saints will...that Panthers run blocking scheme has been absolutely dominant this season.

My concern is three fold:
1) the Jags secondary could limit Kamara and Thomas. Cook will also have a much more difficult time (the Bucs are the worst defense at defending the TE in the NFL).
2) the Saints offense may or many not be able to take advantage of the Jags weaknesses on defense.
3) when the Saints OL has struggled this season (rare occurrence) it has been against an elite interior pass rush. Calais is in my opinion as good as it gets outside of Donald. Remember Peat flailing around trying to defend Donald? It’s not inconceivable that you might see the same this Sunday with Campbell. I think that the Jags have a better supporting cast upfront than the Rams...the talent is there, it’s been a matter of scheme and execution for the Jags.

The Saints should win this game...but it really could be a letdown game coming off of a really tough opening schedule.

We tend to beat Jacksonville, but they give us fits and it'll be a sluggish game

It's a trap game. We need to stay focused.

Not sure I agree with this.

We are 15th in the league in YPC. Our five games have all been against the top half in the league in rush defense, including the 2nd and 4th best in the league.

Yes, and if the Saints can't run the ball on the Jags, then that's a big negative sign for later in the season IMO.

The Saints run DEFENSE has been elite. The run offense has been stagnant outside of week 1. Kamara is constantly needing to churn up YAC and Murray has essentially been invisible. Yes, the Saints have faced above average competition but the interior OL has not done their part.

Rush offense DVOA
WEEK 1. 13.7%
WEEK 2. -36.1%
WEEK 3. -23.1%
WEEK 4. -1.9%
WEEK 5. -13.5%

I don’t think they’ve been great. But the DVOA can be really deceptive given the situational football we’ve faced. We’ve faced really good run defenses with a backup QB so they could load up to stop the run. PLUS, we’ve had leads so teams knew we’d be trying to grind the clock.

Playing on grass....sure hope it's sunny and the field is in good shape.
Priority #1....choose the right cleats
Priority #2... stop the run
Priority #3...make minshew uncomfortable
I'm hoping this isn't a trap game.
I heard they're handing out minshew mania packages (fake mustache and headband )

I'm not underestimating minshew. ..I wanted
us to use a late round pick on him.
Priority #4...choose the right cleats!

What's the trap? Normally, people use that phrase to indicate that a team is overlooking an opponent in favor of the following game. Why would the Saints be looking beyond Jacksonville to Chicago? I don't understand why this would be the case.
