Jadeveon Clowney - Rumored Saints interest. (2 Viewers)

We have too many DEs. One is entrenched at LDE until he retires. We’ve invested 1st and 2nd round picks in two others. And we have a rising 5th year pass rusher emerging as a starter who outplayed all DEs on limited snaps last year. Doesn’t make sense to sign a 5th DE for $5-8+ million, no matter if it’s Clowney or Ngakoue. Granderson, Turner and Foskey needs all of the playing time as possible.

This! I've never seen a player keep getting signed off of potential that has never been realized. He should have been a rotational guy years ago.
Hmmm Davenport is on his second team now, he could very well join Clowney in this group

Normally id say not interested in these types of situations. However, we're scary thin @RDE. We only have Carl Granderson and the back-up lacks experience and have been injured. (P Turner needs to prove he can stay on the field and play at a high level consistently) Isiah Foskey is the back up and he's never played an NFL down. With that said, Clowneys most productive season has been at RDE and ROLB. This would give DA some flexibility for creativeity. At worst he would be a solid rotational player. This is a no brainer move. Unless they go after Yannick. But Yannick will not sign for one year. He's looking for a huge contract for multiple years.

He could, but he was never as highly touted coming out so I don't put them in the same group just yet.

We’ve got 5 solid guys at the position. If they signed Clowney, I wonder who wouldn’t make the cut. Kpassagnon?

1. DE Cameron Jordan
2. DE Carl Granderson
3. DE Isaiah Foskey
4. DE Payton Turner
5. DE Tanoh Kpassagnon
6. DE Niko Lalos
7. DE Jabari Zuniga

We have an ascending second chance guy who has demonstrated in limited action the ability to be a productive DE (Granderson)

We have a former first round pick approaching the end of his rookie deal who’s battled some injuries. He has talent and something to prove. (Turner)

We have a second round pick who many expected to be a first, who was highly productive at the highest collegiate level, looking to prove he’s a legitimate NFL starter.(Foskey)

Between these three guys, I expect somebody to play well. We don’t need a money grab has been/never was free agent signing.

It's speculation, there's zero rumored interest. This link is citing a Bleacher Report guy who lists who he sees as the best fits for the remaining household name free agents.
For anyone who didn't see this on the first page. There's no rumour, purely speculative dot joining

I understand the sentiment, but?

1. DE Cameron Jordan - He is (34yr) The oldest is DE is Calais Campbell (36yr) Cam may retire after this year. He has to be thinking about it.
2. DE Carl Granderson - Love the guy, but has never been a starter.
3. DE Isaiah Foskey - Like the pick, but still a rook.
4. DE Payton Turner - Still a big expensive ? mark.

The only reason I mentioned Clowney is he we showed some interest in the past. We have an almost completely new D line, with a boat load of ? marks. We are still thin on effective DEs.

The best way for those question mark players to become proven is by letting them get playing time across a full season. That’s the only reason we may not know what we have. We have a lot of DEs who needs the snaps. We’ve signed over the hill veterans on defense who ended up cut after preseason.

Granderson has never been a starter because the 1st round drafted DE Davenport was always taking up space in front of him while being mostly unproductive. Then Turner came along a few years ago and crowded up RDE even more amongst the 3 of them. Granderson outplayed both last year. He’ll get his opportunity to start this season.
