Tiny meteoroid bops $10 billion Webb space telescope

A tiny meteoroid struck the newly deployed James Webb Space Telescope in May, knocking one of its gold-plated mirrors out of alignment but not changing the orbiting observatory's schedule to become fully operational shortly, NASA said on Wednesday.

"After initial assessments, the team found the telescope is still performing at a level that exceeds all mission requirements," NASA said. "Thorough analysis and measurements are ongoing."

Ugh, that sucks. This is a problem that won't be resolved until we figure out actual Star Trek style shields.

Yep, we're less than two weeks away from what I feel is going to be some mind-blowing stuff. I've seen articles where the NASA folks who have already seen images (I'm so jealous they get all of this good stuff first) say it is absolutely stunning.

The agency will release the initial batch of images and spectroscopic data on July 12th.

Now I am confused. On the count down page https://webb.nasa.gov/content/webbLaunch/countdown.html they show the the first fully imaged picture will be revealed tomorrow at 9:30 edt tomorrow , but right after it says that today at 4pm Biden will be on Nasa live to reveal it?

I think it's saying Biden will reveal one today and then tomorrow more will be revealed.
