Janoris Jenkins hopes to stay in New Orleans (PFT Article) (1 Viewer)

Jenkins only has 1 year left on his contract. In order to restructure him will require an extension and I truly don't see both him and Apple staying. It will one of them for sure both I doubt can be done with some of the other FA's that should be signed.

He's already signed for 2020.

I know.

The Saints can also cut him and save every penny of his $11.25 Million contract.

They could also bring him back on that deal or restructure.

Lots of options. Some involve him in a Saints uniform, some don't.

I don't understand why cutting Jenkins is even being considered an option by fans. That's not happening. He either restructures or we have him for one more year.

turn that salary to a signing bonus and sign him to 4 year 30 mil contract. Cap is supposed to be around 200 mil.

Because he's 32-years old and set to make more money next year than all but 10 CBs.

He's only making $500K less than the best CB in the league, Stephon Gilmore.

It's not a slam dunk.

Jenkins is also the same age as Josh Norman and is making $4M less than Norman.

I hope Jenkins can stay on. He was impressive. As far as Apple goes I think he started the year off strong. I’m not sure what happened the last few games. I wouldn’t mind keeping Apple as well. You just can’t have enough corners. Probably wishful thinking though. Only so much money to go around

Right. And that deal is so bad that Washington will gladly eat the $3+ million in dead money just to cut Norman.

Jenkins is somewhere in between. Not nearly as bad as Norman. But not a slam dunk to come back on that existing deal.

In fact, I would say that coming back on his current deal is the least likely scenario.

I hope we can keep him around
The resigning of JJ, could actually mean the possibility that MLat is now trade bait. No way the Saints pay top tier money to JJ and MLat. Not going to happen. And I know the Saints have MLat tied up for the next 2 years on his rookie contract. But the best time to trade a young talent, is when they still have a couple of rookie contract years left. This is going to be one of the wildest and interesting off seasons for the Saints in a very long time.

Count me in the Jenkins will get an extension and return. Sure Miami could offer him a fortune, but who wants to go to Miami?

I believe it is critical to keep Jenkins on this team, at least next year. He gives us something that I thought Lattimore would (and while I still like Latt, he is not the same player he was as a rookie, not sure why he has regressed but hope he turns it around), a true ball hawking CB, dude gets turnovers.....

My thought process, is look at what they just paid Peat for one year. If they would do it for Peat, it's a no brainer for Jenkins imo.
