JD's top 10 plays in Saints history. (4 Viewers)

Pretty Good list. I would make a couple of changes. Honestly, last year was the most important, historic year in Saints history. I understand that JD may not have wanted to be so heavy on one year, but it is what it is. There's no way the kick that sent the Saints to the Superbowl in Overtime is not one of the top plays in Saints history. If we had lost the Superbowl, that kick would be #1. Can anyone argue that? Plus, I know great plays last in our memory but those tend to get lost on paper. Great plays in games we win will stand through time because at the end of the day it remains as a win and wins are remembered from one generation to the next. Without further ado,

LiveFromDC's top 10 Plays in Saints History:
10. Meachem's Miracle - Meachem single handedly won the game. I almost ranked it higher thant the Turkey Day Takeaway for the simple fact that Meachem's play turned the moment AND scored. Jenkins play although a HUGE play wasn't big enough to help us win the game alone though it comes pretty close! To me there's two reason's TDT is bigger. It was a nationally televised game (record breaker in fact) and....

9. The Turkey Day Takeaway - we beat Dallas!

8. Dempsey's Big Foot - The only play on the list that's a NFL record. It's been equaled since but not broken.

7. Deuce's Dozer. - Big Momentum Play! Playoff game, too! Huge, however its not as big as the next play which sealed the first Saints playoff victory in history.

6. "Hakim Drops the Ball!" - Here's where the firsts begin. First playoff win was sealed with this play.

5. Gilliam's Kickoff Return - First play in Saint's History!

4. Gleason's blocked punt - First game back in the Dome! Probably the loudest moment in Dome history as well.

AMBUSH!!!! Get it, HA, you didn't see it coming! My #4a play is another special team marvel. The ultimate tide turning play in the HISTORY of the NFL. Ambush.

3. Porter's Pick (no.) 4 - Once again, we were on the brink of a lost when the momentum was suddenly shifted the other direction.

2. "You Belong Here" - I can't fathom a way this kick is lower than 2. As much as our #1 play was great for all it accomplished and the exhileration I felt, watching this kick (it was like slow motion) expertly, divinely as if guided by angels...better yet Saints, sail through the air perfectly in line to split the middle of the uprights...was just ineffable. I can't explain the amount of emotions that ran through me in that short instance. Disbelief, relief, excitment, all at once. It's the only play on the list, and I've seen all but one live, that made me cry. If not for what #1 meant (winning a Superbowl), it would be #1 hands down.

1. Porter's Pick 6 - No words necessary.

Honorable Mention: The River City Relay - A great play, but If I could only carry 10 Saints memories with me for the rest of my life, it would not be one of them.

Agreed 100%.

I also like the name that Henderson gave the river city relay..."The imaculate deception" and when it happened, Henderson said, " no, he can't do that!" Classic

Isn't it a nice problem to have to be unable to fit all the Saints top plays into a top 10 list ? We will have to start a top 20 instead !

Brooks' backward pass against SD didn't make it? Sorry, wrong list.

Archie's first TD as a Saint to beat the Rams (1971 season opener, 24-20) might be included. Goal line stand against Pittsburgh (1987) might be another.

Speaking of backward passes, how about Archie trying to score on a QB sneak, getting bottled up, and flipping the ball to Jess Phillips to take it in. Not a top ten by any stretch, but a great play.

I'm a huge Deuce fan, but I'm not sure his "dozer" run should be on the list, especially at the expense of ambush and Hartley's kick in the NFCCG. Otherwise, I'm fine with Duncan's list. It has a nice mixture of historically significant plays and outstanding football plays.

Why would Archie's first TD be a Saints top 10 play? It makes since if it was a Archie Manning top 10 play. I don't see it being anymore significant than Bree's first TD toss against Cleveland in '06 and THAT season led to first championship game appearance by the Saints. My point being its going to be hard for a regular season game play to make the list without it being a downright improbable play or hold the emotional weight of a game such as returning to the dome. Archie's first TD toss is neither improbable or emotional.

The goal line stand may be high on the list but not top 10.

I can't argue with this list. Does it say something that 4 of the top 10 plays come from one season, out of 43? That's why 2009 will always be special.

livefromDC-

I can't argue much with your list, and I'm starting to see your point on the Hartley kick in the NFCCG, it should be on the list, but Ambush should be higher IMO.

The things that make the Hakim drop and the Gleason block so special aren't just that they are positive plays, but also the moment and HOW they happened. To me, the field goal kick at the end of the day is a field goal kick.

That said, it is better than Dempsey's the more I think about it. Then again, I'm younger and that is fresher.

For some reason, I read "JD" as "Jason David" -- as in "Jason David's Top 10 Plays in Saints History". So I thought about it. This is pretty much what I came up with:

1. The strip and return for a TD against Indy in his first game with the Saints
2. Uhh... I'm out.

From the way Duncan worded his article ("Porter's game-saving interception against Brett Favre trumps Garrett Hartley's winning field goal"), he seems to be limiting himself to a maximum of one play per game. Otherwise, Ambush and Hartley's hell-freezing kick would surely have to make the list of 10 greatest Saints plays.

I can't argue with this list. Does it say something that 4 of the top 10 plays come from one season, out of 43? That's why 2009 will always be special.

Actually, it should be 6 of the top 10 plays coming from 2009 --- Ambush and Hartley's kick have to be included on this list.

Does the Turkey Day Takeway really deserve to be on there? I'm guessing that it's fresh in our minds, more than anything.

I would have liked to see Steve Weathorford's escape from a punt block during the Eagles playoff game in 2006. That play was HUGE in that game.

Speaking of backward passes, how about Archie trying to score on a QB sneak, getting bottled up, and flipping the ball to Jess Phillips to take it in. Not a top ten by any stretch, but a great play.

That's a great one from the old days ... I remember it happened against the Eagles in 1974. That was the same game at Tulane Stadium when the fans held up play for 20 minutes because of a personal foul call against the Saints.
