Jeff Duncan (2 Viewers)

The article he dropped today was 100% Loomis approved. It sets the stage for every offseason talking point that is about to be spun from airline drive. "Oh, there was some malcontents on the roster who didn't do the little things like study film on their I.pads at home." Or "They parked in handicap spots!" Meanwhile giving a pass to the guy who is supposed to make sure these things are getting done and bring consequences to those who aren't doing these things.

If I'm a headcoach and I find out you're not studying the film you're supposed to be studying, you're getting benched, fined by the team, etc. "You gonna learn today" kinda energy. I don't care how big of a star that someone is, its literally your job to study the film when you take those devices home. It is on team leadership including the headcoach to make sure everyone knows what the task at hand is, teaching how to be a pro and bringing accountability to those who screw up or not giving 110%.

Every reporter, if they are good, makes connections. Loomis has prob fed Jeff, Nick, and others info in the past. Players will likely pick a reporter they like and feed them info too. This isn't anything earth shattering or new. Jeff is the guy who got the intel this time, or at least, the one who decided to go public with it or was given the green light to. He did good reporting today. Whether we agree with the team or not, it's nice to at least know their mindset. And now we as fans can react accordingly.

Duncan got what he wanted...

He holds the one and only HoF vote tied to New Orleans. There are only 50 voters for the NFL HoF...

One for each of the 32 teams, 17 at large, and Calvin Watkins, Dallas Morning News (PFWA vote)
That’s a great point of perspective that I didn’t realize. Thanks for real.

Fans didn't so much turn on Duncan because of negative coverage of the team. They turned on him because he mocked the fan base. I haven't read a single thing he's written since then.
The GM has been doing the same. I’m apathetic towards Duncan. Mike T is the best local person imo.

Duncan is a schill for the front office.

The players don’t talk to him.
This knowledge helps put everything in perspective. It's going to make for an interesting offseason, especially when it comes to the media spinning the moves we make.

Interestingly, Duncan was one of the media members on the local week-in-review show on WYES every Friday night. I remember a few comments that he made:

First, he expects some coaching-staff changes in the near future. He did not mention offensive coordinator. He did mention the offensive line.

Second, don't be surprised if the Saints trade some popular players. I don't remember names being mentioned. I suspect the players he had in mind were Alvin and Lattimore.

Third, he thinks too much can be read into the players changing the play at the end of the Falcons game, though he thinks it has some significance. He does not think the players were trying to send a message to Allen. However, he added there is no way that would have happened had Payton been head coach.

If Duncan is a schill for the front office, who are the schills the players and their agent use to plant stories anonymously that spins them in a favorable light?

For every action, their is an opposite and equal reaction.

The main issue I had/have with Duncan was his condescending tone he took towards us fans. He accused us of being incapable of being objective fans. I met Duncan at an SR.com gathering and he's a nice, decent fellow. I bought his post Super Bowl book and enjoyed it. But during that bounty gate period he simply towed the national media and NFL line as if to show he was open-minded about the subject.

As the story played out, yes, SP and Saints got caught after being warned, but the severity of the punishment pointed to the Saints simply being a scapegoat. The so-called evidence that the league had was mostly manufactured and changed as that was revealed. Thankfully, Vilma sued the NFL and they were no longer able to hide behind a CBA stipulation. And I think that Duncan had an ax to grind with Payton, but that is my speculation. If he was gunning for a national gig, that's speculation as well, I guess. Regarding BountyGate, I think he was simply wrong and I think he knows that as well.

And, no, I don't read his work unless portions of it are quoted on this forum.
Where is the lie in this? Have you read these recent threads about DA and Loomis?

During Bountygate he was trying desperately to get some kind of permanent gig with ESPN and became their go to source, which just devolved into him telling them what they wanted to hear. He sensationalized and editorialized a lot when given this taste of a national platform. His plan didn't work and no job ever materialized, despite his clear desperation for it.

He's a bullshirt artist. As has already been said, he's going to do what generates clicks/views. I do think there's some merit to the idea of him being a mouthpiece for the office right now. He's the kind of slimy reporter you would use for something like that.

Honestly it feels like he’s acting as the mob for the boss. I hate it. I’d want all out of here, Loomis, DA… and Duncan
