Above Average ex-NFL players as coaches has worked in the past...The Lions and Texans turned things around hiring a former player to be HC, seems the Patriots are following that trend. I seem to remember reading that Mayo was very well respected as a coach in New England.
At least he's a first-time guy and not damaged goods. I'm not a fan of in-house replacements, but at least they're not trying to sell their fanbase on a used IROC being better than a new Hellcat. This explains why there was animosity within the Pats organization towards Mayo. Guys on Bill’s staff knew that Mayo was the guy to replace the guy, and they probably wanted to make his life hell (probably knowing that they would be gone once Mayo took over).
Good luck Pats, I hope your succession plan doesn’t turn out like the Saints succession plan with DA.
Houston seems to be doing wellAbove Average ex-NFL players as coaches has worked in the past...
