N/S Patriots hire Jerod Mayo as Head Coach (1 Viewer)

So it must be asked, do the Pats get two 3rd round comp picks since they developed a minority coach and he got a head coaching job?

Only seems fair they would imo
Don’t understand posters being confused over this.

It would be the same as if we would promote Khai to GM, I would expect we should receive two 3rd round comp picks.

He’s a minority candidate that was developed and promoted to GM/HC, it shouldn’t only apply if they’re hired by another team.

I only ask this because it could have an implication on us if we were to promote Khai.

Now that you mention it. It's guys like that, I'll throw Payton and Mike Tomlin in that group too although they didn't really play at the next level, who played football and know enough to excel despite maybe not being the most gifted athletically.
Another way of saying this is that some players are more mentally gifted than others and some players are more physically gifted than others.

When transitioning from player to coach it is the most mentally gifted that Excell in coaching.

Looks like Mayo is in! Congrats! I hope he gets all the bread he deserves, and he can use his existing chemistry to ham it up with the players.

However, If he doesn't do well, the fans may throw tomatoes at him. Lettuce hope that he does well!

Sorry.. couldn't help myself 🤣
Great Nic Cage.gif

The last Linebacker turned coach who's coaching for the team he played for worked out really well. If he's anything like Demeco Ryans, he's going to be a good one.

Grats to Mayo!

So Vrabel is still available... hope he goes to the AFC. The Chargers job sure does look nice.

Yeah, you really spread it on thick! Wow, we're so weak when it comes to willpower. 🙄😁

Is now a good time to mention that Dennis Allen started the final 21 games of his college career as a Safety in Texas A&M's Wrecking Crew defense? :)

Just saying, being a former player, even one that played at a high level, is no guarantee of coaching success.

I really wanted him in his draft year, we got Sedrick Ellis instead. I think he will be a good hire, former player who played for the team at a high level has worked with Demeco Ryans at Houston..

For New England’s sake, let’s hope all it takes is some Mayo to turn their chicken-shyte into chicken-salad.
