Kellen Moore expected to be Saints coach [Feb 10 — Fletcher Mackel: mostly done deal; intro press conference to be later this week] (80 Viewers)

I haven't been this excited since Drew was still playing. I hated the DA hire. I've hated the way the roster was managed while he was here and I hated that we couldn't develop any players for the last few years. I am so hopeful that the next era brings back respectability to the team and shrug off the attempt at becoming the Raiders that DA was doing.
I'm excited about this hire as well. A lot of folks don't like how we got to this point, but this is a great hire.

CJGJ was always a stud with us. We offered him an extension but he wanted more money, became toxic so we traded him.

This is on Mickey and DA.

Hendrickson was a stud for us. Anzalone was good for us he just couldn't stay healthy.

My point with CJGJ was more that we had a coach who couldn't figure out how to keep him happy or get him to play as part of the team. Other teams have managed that. But, I did lump him in with guys that needed to be developed so I made it confusing. Anyway, they should have paid him and not let it get so toxic.

Baun is on DA and Hodges who either didn't recognize the talent or had him playing the wrong position. Loomis can only sign guys who are willing to sign. Loomis offered Baun more than Philly, but he could not offer him playing time. DA refusing to play him meant he was always going to leave for the opportunity to start someplace else.

Hendrickson is on DA. DA didn't think he was very good and though he was just an effort guy who flashed for a year but could not sustain it because he had bad technique.

Are some of you even Saints fans??
Come around my parts and ask anyone about if I’m a saints fan, there probably isn’t a bigger Saints fan western Canada. Literal saints tattoo on my leg for the last decade… but nah man I can take em or leave em!

Let me explain how interviews work, that guy pushing sheet that hasn’t been announced is in poor taste! The emotion of that big win, the interview should have been about the team and the night and the win. Did you notice how many times KM was using the word special and talking about his teammates?

I don’t really care about the sentiment from people from my reply, what that interviewer did was in poor taste. KM has got to be thinking how presumptuous of this guy to try and go for a moment like that and take what should be about the Super Bowl champs and turn it into something about the Saints.

That time may come, but interjecting it into the interview like that would be flat out irksom if you ask me. Hey local reporter no one’s heard of, stop making this about yourself, you’re lucky to be here and interview so stick to the Super Bowl.

Guy tried for a got ya moment in a way. So dumb and if I was KM I would think it was dumb too.

Hendrickson and CJGJ balled for us. Anzalone stayed hurt like he did in college. Baun is really the only one that didn't develop. And like another poster said, we offered CJGJ an extension but he wanted more.

Hendrickson had one good year and DA thought is was a fluke based purely on effort. That's why we didn't pay him.

The guy is a local New Orleans reporter. He doesn't give a sheet about the Philly win. He cares about how the story relates to New Orleans and whether Moore is taking the job. If Moore didn't want to talk to him, he could have said no. But all of this is part of the job being an NFL coach. Especially an NFL coach who is looking to get a HC job in the NFL. Reporters ask questions and people respond how they like. Moore just brushed it off and continued to answer other questions. I'm sure he could care less about some 60 second interview with a few questions he didn't really want to answer. It's part of the job and it's going to be much more if he takes a HC job here or anywhere else. In fact, it would be much worse in places like Philly or New York.

Maybe he has considered those possibilities and feels better about the situation here? Or doesn't want to gamble on the unknown? Hell, it's even possible he might be excited about the challenges he'll face here.
Sure there all possiblites, I hope he takes the job. I always wanted the Saints to go the young OC route, so I am excited about Moore being the next HC. I feel 99.9% sure it's going to happen. Just saying that it would be a mistake for him not to at least consider staying with the Eagles another year and seeing if a better opportunity opens up next year.

Any timeline on the announcement?

I agree this reported tried to make the moment about him knowing what Kellen Moore's next career step was and did not respect the process as he could not outright say he accepted the job, but to think Moore would not then take the job because the media kept asking him about it was the questionable comment to me.

We tried to sign him. He turned down our contract because he wanted more money. It turned toxic after and I can't really blame either DA or the FO for that.

Hendrickson is on DA. DA didn't think he was very good and though he was just an effort guy who flashed for a year but could not sustain it because he had bad technique.
In what world is Hendrickson on DA and not Loomis??? He lead our team in sacks his final year and our FO decided not to pay him. They took a gamble and they lost. Loomis and co decided to trade up for Davenport and draft Turner instead.

Meanwhile Davenport and Turner (two first round picks, arguably 3 if you include trading up) have been pretty below average while Trey has been top 5 in sacks almost every year since leaving us.

That is 100% on Loomis as the GM.

It's hard to judge Moore because of the insane level of talent he has at his disposal.

The best offensive line in the league.

The best running back in the league.

A true #1 receiver in AJ Brown.

A true #2 maybe #1 on some teams in Smith.

A very good TE as well.

Pro bowl caliber QB in Hurts.

That's seriously game breaking amount of talent and he most likely will never have that level of talent ever again.
Take all of that away from Hurts and he is not a pro bowl caliber. Look at the Bucs game without his weapons.

In the world where DA said he's not worth the money because he was just an effort guy who had a good year by the fluke of running into some easy sacks. Do you really expect a GM to go against what he is told about a player's ability by the guy running the defense? Which by the way is the world we live in.
