Father of LSU QB, Garrett Nussmeier BTW
We tried to sign him. He turned down our contract because he wanted more money. It turned toxic after and I can't really blame either DA or the FO for that.My point with CJGJ was more that we had a coach who couldn't figure out how to keep him happy or get him to play as part of the team. Other teams have managed that. But, I did lump him in with guys that needed to be developed so I made it confusing. Anyway, they should have paid him and not let it get so toxic.
In what world is Hendrickson on DA and not Loomis??? He lead our team in sacks his final year and our FO decided not to pay him. They took a gamble and they lost. Loomis and co decided to trade up for Davenport and draft Turner instead.Hendrickson is on DA. DA didn't think he was very good and though he was just an effort guy who flashed for a year but could not sustain it because he had bad technique.
Take all of that away from Hurts and he is not a pro bowl caliber. Look at the Bucs game without his weapons. It's hard to judge Moore because of the insane level of talent he has at his disposal.
The best offensive line in the league.
The best running back in the league.
A true #1 receiver in AJ Brown.
A true #2 maybe #1 on some teams in Smith.
A very good TE as well.
Pro bowl caliber QB in Hurts.
That's seriously game breaking amount of talent and he most likely will never have that level of talent ever again.

Meanwhile Davenport and Turner (two first round picks, arguably 3 if you include trading up) have been pretty below average while Trey has been top 5 in sacks almost every year since leaving us.
That is 100% on Loomis as the GM.
That the literal job of a GM. That's exactly what they do???In the world where DA said he's not worth the money because he was just an effort guy who had a good year by the fluke of running into some easy sacks. Do you really expect a GM to go against what he is told about a player's ability by the guy running the defense?
A lot of what you're saying is true. I think the GM and Pro Personnel guys need to have their own grades on our players and have questions for coaches that aren't utilizing the players they've been given. That said, when making choices each off season with zero cap space, what is the GM to do? Re-sign a player the coach won't play and doesn't prioritize or try to find one that the coach will play. That the literal job of a GM. That's exactly what they do???
Trey also did not "run into easy sacks" he dominated with a 28% pass rush win rate.
Of course a GM should listen to his HC but you also need you form your own opinion. 90% of this board wanted him back. You look at the analytics, the film, etc and make a decision. Mickey made the decision to let him walk and it was a terrible decision we have been trying to recover from for years.
I mean Mickey is to blame for a lot of this, but anyone who thinks Payton didn’t have his hands in every decision is fooling themselves. This is no place to be telling the truth. We still have Mickey Loomis we can blame, c'mon man.
The man has been gone for going on four years and the Saints are in the same cap situation that they were in when he was still here.
Don’t you think that the cap situation would’ve improved after three offseason’s if he was the one at fault?
The Saints haven’t changed their salary cap strategy at all since he’s been gone, so perhaps that’s the reason Payton is no longer here. It’s possible that he didn’t want to be a part of these shenanigans that were only acceptable while Brees was still the QB. That’s right, Loomis and Co. kept this foolishness going by bringing in Derek Carr and sticking to win now mode with him at the helm.I didn’t say Loomis isn’t to blame. He had a chance to hit the restart button when Payton was gone but wanted to keep the window open by signing Carr. That was a huge mistake. However if you don’t think that Payton caused the backlog of dead money and continuing to kick the can down the road you haven’t been paying attention.

Loomis is responsible for DA/Carr yea no crap but Payton is absolutely responsible for the years and years of kicking the can down the road that added to what we’re dealing with today.Stop with that. Loomis controls the cap and continued that mess for 3 years after Sean was gone.
