Kellen Moore most likely to be Saints coach; Saints meeting with Moore again after the SB, Kellen Moore has begun working on assembling coaching staff (150 Viewers)

Kellen Moore is young, a former QB and by most accounts a smart guy.
Can he lead the organization? Keep control of the locker room if the team goes 4-13 next year.
I don't see us going 4-13 next year no matter who is the coach or QB.

Injuries especially McCoy's injury killed us this year. We were 4-3 in games he played in this year.
He made the Pro Bowl with only 7 games played... even as an alternate this is crazy & unheard of...

Our D just hit a wall of ineptitude...mainly because of age of it's leaders.
The NFL hasn't changed much with the fact if you can't stop the run you probably aren't going to win...

We need a backup C that can come in and actually fill the position if McCoy gets hurt again so we don't have to reshuffle the OL.
This was the 3rd out of 4 years that he miss multiple games due to an injury,
We need a starting LG. L. Patrick is getting older and with Saldiveri not being able to stay on the field has resulted in the position being a huge question mark!
We must get a big body X-WR... We still have not replaced Michael Thomas! This should be our #1 position of need in the draft!
We need a big run stuffing DT with long arms & quick feet to shut down the opposing teams running game.
We need LBs that attack the line of scrimmage instead of making tackles in the D backfield...
We need LBs that can cover a TE or RB on pass plays... This hasn't happened in years on our D.
We need an enforcer at S...

With the number of draft picks we have this year, these problems are all fixable...
If McMillian, Graham, & Carter are all gone by the 9th pick, we should trade back to a later 1st round pick. The Steelers would be a logical choice since they need a QB...

DA was not a HC that our team respected very much. The proof is the play against ATL in 2023 when the O decided to score a useless TD at the end of the game instead of kneeling it out...

Problem with our spot is in all likelihood Cam Ward and Shadeur will be gone by 9. There's a pretty significant dropoff at QB then so hard to imagine someone wanting to jump into the top 10 to get a guy they can just sit for.

There is always a QB that shoots up the draft board after the combine or their pro day...
We will see.

Last year it was Bo Nix.

Really great stuff here

Always love Cosell’s take on things…and some good stuff in there indeed. It’s going to be interesting to see just what our strengths are on offense for Moore to Coach up to. We seem aimless in that category right now. This will be a positive for Rattler and Haener…or whoever he brings in. Where is my popcorn….

Yea we’re in for a long rebuilding process. At least they found a guy courageous enough to take it. He proved that he’s got what it takes on offense. The biggest hire will be DC. Rizzi still lingering is interesting, considering he could’ve gone to Chicago or Denver by now… I agree, Rattler and Carr will definitely get good coaching. Or do we trade up or take a Dart or a Howard. Lots of questions.

I'm not sure how I would feel about Brandon Staley as DC. He had 1 good year as Defensive Coordinator with a massively stacked Rams defense with Aaron Donald leading that defense. Then he took the head coaching job for the Chargers. He was play calling there and the following 3 years the Chargers were consistently a bad defense in all but 1 year, they were bottom of the average group.

Something to ponder. On one hand you could say perhaps he's really good at defense and an awful head coach like Dennis Allen. On the other, you can make an argument that even Donald Duck could've DC'd for the Rams and led a good defense in 2020
he reminds of Dennis Allen with only one year as a DC before becoming a head coach. Just like Allen he had a great mentor Greg Williams and Staley with Vic Fangio. So I'm hoping if is the choice that he will have success.

Get the big Wr. Tet with the first and Walter Nolan with our 2nd. Then figure it out.

The interviewing was scheduled to end after Moore, Kingsbury and then McCarthy before they went to interview Moore. McCarthy and Kingsbury pulled out. That ended the interview process after Moore's interview.

Anything about why that all happened is just speculation. There are several plausible scenarios that could have lead to McCarthy and Kingsbury pulling out, besides they were told Moore was the hire.

True, but looking at the timeline it's as such

-Saints Interviewed Moore Monday Night
-Kafka Shrine Bowl interview w/ NO Football took place around 10AM Tuesday (Had not been told Saints were going another direction yet)
-Kingsburry pulls out around 2PM Tuesday (theory on this is He and Moore share an agent, may have gotten word earlier)
-McCarthy pulls out around 9PM Tuesday

Nothing else after that outside of "Moore in drivers seat" has been reported. There's no clear indicator that everyone was told Moore was definite but there are some subtle reference points that suggest this is potentially what happened.

However, based on what we saw w/ Coehn...it's still very much possible that Moore could get cold feet, leaving us to choose between Rizzi, Kafka, and Anthony Weaver

Could the Saints have told Moore to sleep on it and offered him the job after the interview? Was he their guy the entire time, did Moore call them the next day and said he wanted the job? Lots of blanks left to fill in.

I just read the rules on offering a contract, bc I really didn't know the rule. I found it interesting the Saints cannot even offer the job until the day after the Super Bowl. They must also contact the Eagles and notify them, if it is indeed Moore. Also during the Super Bowl week, if I read this right, they are not to contact any coaches.

From my conclusions, we are waiting for Moore on Monday that way if Moore gets cold feet you can pivot to Kafka or Rizzi.

I hope Loomis gets spurned for sitting in his comfort zone. Moore and DA are from a similar mold, and that's not what got us to our 1st SB. There was some friction between he and Payton that was soothed by their shared competitive spirit. Ultimately it lead to them growing weary of each other but still, getting out of your comfort zone is where Growth lies.

Give the job to someone who wants the damn challenge. Kafka was excited and we know Rizzi wants the job.

If Moore takes the job, then he wants it and wants the challenge, no? And if he didn't realize that we had major challenges at QB, I wouldn't want Moore to get the job anyway. I want a guy that takes the job despite realizing the challenges and not being desperate to have any job, not a guy that takes the job because he doesn't understand the challenges and just wants any HC job.

I'm fine with Kafka if Moore doesn't take it. Not close to my first choice, but he could end up being a good HC given that he appears to have leadership and organization skills. But having to go with Rizzi would be a major blow IMO. Especially since the one real advantage to Rizzi in my mind was that he might have kept the offensive staff which is not really an option now and word is that Rizzi's plan is to bring in a bunch of expensive old coaches for his staff which I am really not a fan of.
