Kellen Moore most likely to be Saints coach; Saints meeting Moore again after Super Bowl, Kellen Moore has begun working on assembling staff (174 Viewers)

Well, as a matter of logic, it appears to be Moore. At the moment, we are not hearing that an announcement and signing are imminent. Given the four apparent finalists, the only explanations that we are not hearing tonight who the coach is are (1) it's Moore, and the Saints have to wait because he is in the Super Bowl; or (2) the Saints still don't know who they want. If the latter, after this passage of time, the organization is hopelessly inept, and they should just pick a name out of a hat, or save a few dollars upfront and hire someone off this forum.

I am not thrilled that it is Moore. I do have questions about whether his personality is strong enough. I prefer Weaver and even Rizzi over Moore (I don't know enough about Kafka to say who my preference between the two would be). But at this stage, I don't have a strong opinion on the issue because my knowledge of the four is one percent of the knowledge of those who have been running the coaching search, even if I do not hold in high esteem the main guy running the search.

Yeah, Nick has confirmed that we are done interviewing. So I’d imagine we’d have chosen Weaver or Kafka by now if it was going to be one of them.

At this stage, the tea leaves all seem to point to the obvious…we aren’t allowed to announce our selection.

I said from the beginning that I didn't want a retread, and he's not that. Unlike Allen, I'm open to seeing how this plays. He's not bringing the guys from Philly or Dallas with him, so I think we should know pretty early if this will work. No more injury excuses; the clock is ticking.

To me, Rizzi would have been the disaster hire. I just was not impressed with the way he handled himself and twice argued with officials about an obvious call that he appeared not to know what the rule was. The clock management fiasco was embarrassing. I would love him back as ST Coordinator though.

One game should not stamp one's career. But assuming it is Moore, it will be interesting to see what happens if in the Super Bowl the Eagles offense falters and people point to the coaching. Of course, the Eagles could win, and people could say that Moore outcoached Spagnuolo. My point--how the Super Bowl is played and turns out could increase or reduce the excitement the Monday after the game when the Moore announcement is made (assuming it is Moore).

I'm a little surprised about the lack of enthusiasm about Moore. I wanted a bright young offensive coach all along, and Moore definitely fits.

You don't have to be a ra-ra guy to earn the respect of your team. You just have to treat them with respect (and win).

If it happens, I'm excited.

If the coach or team can't use injuries as an excuse can a rb use injuries to the ol as an excuse, or a wr use injuries to the QB as an excuse for not reaching their goals

I agree everyone wants that fiery personality. Why? Yes it worked with Sean here, but everyone wants to move on from the Peyton era. This is it. Kevin O' Connell and Kyle Shanahan don't look like the fiery/ra-ra guy and look at their success. I haven't seen that trait in Coen or Canales. They are in the mole young offensive mind.

There’s back-channels he works through to do this and in effect it will be one of the many “league sources” or network of sources that will confirm the hire has occurred, along with likely his own agent.
???

Explain “back channels” please. I’m not trying to be sarcastic St but I’m pretty sure that Moore is more focused on the game plan for Philly to beat KC at the moment. Call me a skeptic if you like but I just can’t picture Kellen working on the game plan, packing, spending time with his family and finding the extra time needed to recruit/find our next OC/DC and position coaches.

I don’t see any of the Saints current coaching vacancies being filled before next Sunday imho. Honestly that’s one of my concerns with Kellen. Can he assemble a quality NFL caliber staff. I could be wrong, and I’d love for the brain trust here to give me their predictions on exactly who they believe KM will target for our/his OC/DC and all the position coaches. In addition, can we please discuss our scouting, oops I’m sorry what coach Moore’s scouting department looks like or is his “back channels” and extensive network begun that process as well?

Happens all the time. And most of it won’t be hard bc they will either be coaches he’s worked with before or that he knows from various stops.

In fact, I’m sure many of these will be the result of previous hypothetical conversations. “Hey, if I ever become a HC, you wanna be my OL coach?”

I gotcha Spud. I’m asking you guys who do you guys think those coaches might be.

Plus, I haven’t seen or heard much about our scouting process/scouts in general. Who was at the senior bowl practices? What were they looking at? What measurables? Metrics? Standards? Performance? And does that align or will that align with Coach Moore’s philosophy?

The reason that I ask is that ML has publicly said many times that the new coach will pick his staff. Does that include the scouting department? I think that is a relevant and pertinent question as in it does impact and has impacted our depth or lack there of at certain positions. Maybe Coach Moore has an entirely different approach to scouting personnel and if so I would want that implemented now. How do we know that is happening?

Nobody has much idea on the DC that would come with Moore. Some are speculating that it could be Brandon Staley since Moore worked under him with the Chargers and Staley is available. Or will be since he is not expected to go back to SF on Saleh's staff.

As far as the OC, most seem to think it would be Doug Nussmeier who has followed Moore to every place he goes.

As far as scouting, the scouts just gather info on all the players and then later before the draft the HC, Irleand, Loomis, and Mueller will stack the boards based on the new schemes and what the HC likes. At this point, all of the scouting is more or less done anyway. But, according to Underhill, we have most of the front office at the Senior Bowl at this point.

Thank you,

I can get on board with Staley. It will be extremely interesting to see how we go forward with our QB position with Kellen. I can actually see it going either way with him in my opinion based on his OC experience in Dallas and Philly and the personnel that we currently have.

I gotta friend that swears our Defense is 2 players away from championship caliber......

He is a Commanders fan btw, but he loves our defense. Says this year was cause of Dennis aLLen and his ineptitude lingering.

Our DC needs to blitz more and focus on dline and lbers.
