Video Kellen Moore on Spencer Rattler: “Good player, tons of tools. .. You want to make sure he’s going through the right process.”

He really hasn't had a fair chance to prove himself. Maybe Moore can evaluate him during pre-season and make a decision before next year's draft. If he determines that isn't the direction to go, then go for Nuss next year.
I mean how much can a 5th round pick prove year 1. There’s number 1 picks on their second contract still proving themselves.

So, for Spencer Rattler…you’re saying look beyond the results? Hmm…

It doesn't make sense not to. It's hard enough to expect a rookie to step in and immediately play at NFL speed and stack up wins - what Jayden Daniels was able to do was truly exceptional. Even more challenging when a QB is out there playing behind a patchwork OL and throwing to a corps of backup and midseason free agent WRs.

As compared to who?

Pretty much every draft report on him noted that he had flaws and nobody said anything about him being able to start in his first season. He was a 5th rounder for a reason. Most of his weaknesses could be attributed to running for his life more often than not, but he did get into some bad habits as a result. Obviously, it takes time to break those bad habits (if he is able to) but the situation he was thrust into did not give him a chance. Add to that the limitations on training camps these days and fewer preseason games to get reps and it is very understandable that he struggled

The thing with Rattler I feel is not so much the win and lost but not him not putting 4 quarters of solid plays. Let's hope this coaching staff can figure things out for him.
We should be able to get a better idea of what he can do after this offseason. Like CKM said, there really isn't a lot of time between the end of the college season and the beginning of NFL training camp due to all the demands of the draft process. I am pretty sure that I read that Rattler was working with QB specialist Mike Giovando this offseason.

Clearly Moore thinks that Rattler is talented but needs to see how he prepares, how he thinks through progressions in the QB room, etc. to determine if he has what it takes.

I wonder how much time he's spending with Rattler to get a feel for that between now and the draft and how much that might influence our decision making.

I'm willing to bet that CKM has had some detailed conversations with Giovando about what he saw in Rattler's progression with fundamentals

I thinks a lot had to do with coaching. Ross Jackson talked about it some last season and even more after the hired Moore this year. He said Kubiak didn't have a second punch and they didn't make adjustments well during the game. He said Kubiak was asked at one point about play calling and he said they we are gone to do what we do basically no matter what the other team does. So if the team was good at the stopping the run to them we are stilling going to run due to that is what we do best. Ross said that is just the opposite for Moore and we saw that with Sean as well. Moore said it will be a week to week thing. He said in the introductory press conference it doesn't matter if they throw 50 times or run 50 times they will do what is best to win the game.

Coach is right. You can’t evaluate him based on last season. As a rookie he had to go through the draft process, learn a new offense, compete with Haener for reps, get reps mainly with the 2nd and 3rd stringers, and play with a suspect offensive line and a makeshift receiver core. I’m not giving up just yet.

He said exactly what you would expect an incoming head coach to say about a qb on the roster. It’s his only option. He ain’t gonna bash him regardless if it was Spencer Rattler or Ian Book. He gave a HC answer.

He wasn’t going to say, Rattler didn’t show anything on film that changes our plans to potentially draft a QB in the first round.

Because that’s what he wanted to say.

Rattler Derangement Syndrome gets thick quick.

IMO, Nuss has a long way to go to prove himself worthy of a high pick. He has some very good games, but he also mixes in some mediocre games with games where he plays bad for the majority of the game like South Carolina, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M. He's going to need to learn to be more consistent and get better at taking his check downs instead of sacks or just throwing the ball up.

He has talent, but IMO, he's not there yet. Although to be fair to him, I don't think Brian Kelly's offense and lack of a running game are doing him any favors.
