Video Kellen Moore on Spencer Rattler: “Good player, tons of tools. .. You want to make sure he’s going through the right process.” (1 Viewer)

I thinks a lot had to do with coaching. Ross Jackson talked about it some last season and even more after the hired Moore this year. He said Kubiak didn't have a second punch and they didn't make adjustments well during the game. He said Kubiak was asked at one point about play calling and he said they we are gone to do what we do basically no matter what the other team does. So if the team was good at the stopping the run to them we are stilling going to run due to that is what we do best. Ross said that is just the opposite for Moore and we saw that with Sean as well. Moore said it will be a week to week thing. He said in the introductory press conference it doesn't matter if they throw 50 times or run 50 times they will do what is best to win the game.

Yeah, IMO that is the fatal flaw of the Shanahan/Kubiak system. If you run into a team that can stop your run game, you are in trouble.

I wasn't a fan of Kubiak after week 5. First two games gave me false hope but he was very stale throughout the season. I am happy he is not with us anymore.

He said exactly what you would expect an incoming head coach to say about a qb on the roster. It’s his only option. He ain’t gonna bash him regardless if it was Spencer Rattler or Ian Book. He gave a HC answer.

He wasn’t going to say, Rattler didn’t show anything on film that changes our plans to potentially draft a QB in the first round.

Because that’s what he wanted to say.

Rattler Derangement Syndrome gets thick quick.
He went into far more detail than he needed to.

The only thing that people are saying is that it isn't fair to determine his future based on his rookie season. Nobody is anointing him and nobody (that I have seen, at least) has said that we shouldn't look to draft a QB that we feel is capable of starting.

That seems to be far more reasonable than those that have already decided that he is worthless

The offense would look good the first drive and most of the first half. Then after that nothing. Most of the rushing yards came in the first half as well. I remember one game they had almost 90 yards on the ground in the first half and they barely got over a hundred for the game.

Agreed. I like Rattler's potential and thought he showed enough ability, under really challenging circumstances, to hopefully develop further.

But I also think if the Saints have a strong belief in a QB in this draft, try to get him. My expectation is that Carr is a bridge QB unless things really click in a way that extends his time here (only mentioning as it's among the possibilities) so the team has to be planning for the near future. There's the potential to develop a starter and backup over the course of this season and Rattler could still have a place in that, whatever the team does in the draft.

So, for Spencer Rattler…you’re saying look beyond the results? Hmm…
Considering that the kid was thrown to the wolves with virtually no help, yes you overlook this season. What if he had started all 16 games and had a record of 3 - 13 with 28 interceptions; would you bench him???? By the way, these are the rookie stats for Peyton Manning. Good thing someone had the good sense to LOOK BEYOND THE RESULTS. Give the kid an honest look and let him grow a little.

Rattler should have never seen the field last year. They looked like they were taking the Jordan Love approach with him, letting him be the 3rd string gameday inactive. Matt Nagy caved the same with Fields and they both got fired.

Then they yanked his chain making him the starter after getting limited reps in camp. That was a recipe for disaster. His (anyone's) performance would look a whole different if he was getting the starter reps going back to camp. I'm not sure there is anything there yet, but last year was an incomplete evaluation at best.

Clearly Moore thinks that Rattler is talented but needs to see how he prepares, how he thinks through progressions in the QB room, etc. to determine if he has what it takes.

I wonder how much time he's spending with Rattler to get a feel for that between now and the draft and how much that might influence our decision making.
I believe Mini Camp starts in like a week or 2, so that should at least give Moore a little bit of an idea of who Rattler is before the draft.

I’m not reading too much into anything Kellen Moore says. He gives generic coach speak answers to nearly everything regarding particular players. I was surprised to not hear that he was “excited to team up” like I’ve heard so many times in other answers. We’ll know what he thinks when we start seeing guys on the field.

Was Kellen asked about Jake the Snake Haener, what was his take there?? Sssssssssssss!

He seems to be the forgotten one. I still think he can be at least on a roster here or somewhere else.

I don’t see it personally. And I really wanted to because he’s pretty local to where I am and thought it would be cool. But I’ve seen nothing that says he’s even a viable backup. Maybe practice squad.
