Larry Fitzgerald goes to bat for Sean (3 Viewers)

I won't bumrush this thread with talk about Bron. But not at the table? That's ridiculous homie!
Nope, not at the table. I don’t get caught up in the Klutch pushed agenda. I believe what my eyes see. We’ll agree to disagree.

If Sean Payton believed Winston was the future at QB for the Saints he would still be our coach. I read somewhere after his decision to setup away that the future QB was not in the building.

Think about trades we have seen from teams trying to get into the top 3 in the past. It has required MAJOR compensation just to go from like 10 to 3, usually a future first round pick and then some.

If SP is reasonably worth a mid first round pick, then using him to get pick 3 likely requires us to throw in a sweetener.

If it was announced tonight that we are trading SP and next year’s first for pick 3, I honestly would not be upset. I don’t think it is quite understood how high those top 3 picks are valued.
At first I hated your suggestion of perhaps a sweetener for #3. But now I am warming to it. A 3 is a franchise QB. Something we build a franchise around. That sounds like something ML might do

- For the Eagles to go from pick 8 to pick 2 in 2016, they had to give up pick 8, their 3rd and 4th rounder in 2016 + their 2017 first and 2018 second.

- In 2018, for the Jets to merely go from pick 6 to pick 3, they gave up pick 37 and 49 in 2018, along with their second round pick in 2019.

- In 2021, to go from pick 12 to pick 3, the 49ers gave the Dolphins their first round and third round pick in 2021, and their first round pick in 2022.

In conclusion, you ain’t getting pick #3 merely for the rights to Sean Payton.
I hear you but those were pics and as we all know those can be iffy. We are offering them a proven franchise saver and builder of a SB team to add to what they believe is a franchise QB. Different dynamics in play here

Tired of this false narrative. Winston wasn't under contract when Payton stepped away.

This, plus he had torn his ACL. Payton loved working with Jameis and pretty clearly got the best out of him. I just wish we could have seen more of it.

Agreed. Loomis knows he’d be better off letting Payton walk for nothing in 2 years than taking a bad deal now.
And something that's never been answered clearly, is whether the unworked years of Payton's contract toll. It could be in the wording of the contract, which isn't public, or it could be an ambiguity that presumably somebody like Payton's good friend (/s) Roger Goodell would have to rule on.

Yes. This could also be litigated and keep Sean from coaching indefinitely. It would be a lose lose for all and should be held back as a nuclear option if team is not adequately compensated.

Absolutely. There has been no definitive answer. I'm betting there are all kinds of non-compete clauses in every HC contract. Most of what I've been able to find is that we will be entitled to compensation or it will end up in the courts if SP tried to sign with another team after 2024

Kyler doesn't seem like Payton's type of QB. He appears to be about the opposite of Brees when it comes to being a student of the game.
